Synopsis:

The producer of Girls Trip serves up a delicious romantic comedy about one little lie, one large Italian villa, and two people getting lost in the sauce of love. ‘You, Me and Tuscany’ follows Anna a struggling house sitter who after being caught enjoying the luxuries of a client meets a handsome man from Tuscany at a bar and on a whim decides to go after having hoped to visit for some time. Upon arriving she quickly realizes that a huge local event has resulted in every place to stay being booked long ago, causing Anna to set up at the man’s home which he mentioned he hasn’t used in some time. But when his mother and grandmother catch her within she quickly lies and says she’s his fiancée. Unfortunately this sets off a pattern of family gatherings and more as she must decide how to handle this lie moving forward, especially once she begins falling for the man’s cousin and becoming fond of his family.

Directed by Kat Coiro (Marry Me, TV’s Matlock) from a screenplay written by Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) and a story by Ryan Engle & Kristin N. Engle, Coiro does a very nice job at the helm of ‘You, Me and Tuscany’ guiding along the romantic outing with a sufficient balance of humor, heart and beauty. The film’s cast includes Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid 2023), Regé-Jean Page (Black Bag), Lorenzo De Moor (Another Simple Favor), Marco Calvani (TV’s The Four Seasons), Isabella Ferrari (Under the Amalfi Sun), Paolo Sassanelli (TV’s Cold Summer), Stefania Casini (The Goldsmith), Stella Pecollo (TV’s Unwanted), Aziza Scott (One of Them Days), Tommaso Cassissa, and Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3), and while many offer solid performances throughout, some are certainly better than others.

[Blu-Ray Review] You, Me And Tuscany; Now Available From Universal 2

‘You, Me and Tuscany’ is a fun, humorous and heartwarming fish out of water tale that repeatedly benefits from an easygoing pace and story, with a great deal of breathtaking visuals and scenery on display throughout. It follows a generic and largely by-the-book story and if you’ve seen more than one or two rom-coms over the years you’ll be able to predict just about every twist and turn long before it occurs, so don’t go in expecting a groundbreaking and massively original tale. But if you’re seeking a lighthearted and romantic movie with beautiful surroundings and a good few chuckles to be had along the way then ‘You, Me and Tuscany’ might just be exactly what you’re looking for and it should have no trouble keeping you entertained and smiling for most of its duration.

Director Kat Coiro does a commendable job guiding along the tale and balancing the surrounding beauty with the easygoing fun and laughs, even if some of the performances within may be better than others. It keeps the fun and humor coming consistently throughout and even the blatantly obvious and predictable turns are still often a great deal of fun albeit anything but surprising. If you enjoy a simplistic romantic comedy that doesn’t pretend or try to be something more than it is, then you’ll likely thoroughly enjoy this heartwarming and humorous tale.

[Blu-Ray Review] You, Me And Tuscany; Now Available From Universal 3

Overall, ‘You, Me and Tuscany’ delivers a simplistic, by the book romantic comedy that benefits from its easygoing, romantic story and frequent humor, not to mention the stunning scenery showcased throughout which quickly becomes one of the biggest stars of the show. It may be largely absent of originality and some of the performances are slightly lacking, but it wisely never attempts to be something more meaningful or complex and instead embraces its simple nature and rolls with it which helps to keep the fun, humor and heart coming consistently throughout. If you enjoy a simple, by the book romantic comedy with heart, humor and a thoroughly gorgeous environment for it all to play out in, then ‘You, Me and Tuscany’ is recommended and should make a nice selection for a relaxing movie night at home.
