Synopsis:

Doom Patrol reimagines one of DC’s most beloved groups of Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman, Crazy Jane and Cyborg, now joined by former Super-Villain Madame Rouge. Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured. Part support group, part Super hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of superpowered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Season Four opens with the team unexpectedly traveling to the future to find an unwelcome surprise. Faced with their imminent demise, the Doom Patrol must decide once and for all which is more important: their own happiness or the fate of the world.

SEASON 4 – REVIEW:

The fourth and final season of ‘Doom Patrol’ rejoins the beloved group of troubled heroes as they are finally beginning to find a way to work together as a team only to be accidently transported into an apocalyptic future that raises more questions and ends up resulting in the team beginning to fall back into their own patterns. Now joined by Madame Rouge the group hesitantly begins to welcome her as one of their own, but as new issues arise and the team is suddenly faced with their own mortality, they’ll have to determine which is more important, their own lives and the possibility of happiness or the fate of the world.

The final season of ‘Doom Patrol’ takes viewers on one last emotional and peculiar journey with our favorite group of unstable heroes. The fourth season sees our heroes finally starting to work together adequately and utilize each of their own strengths, at least until more difficulties are thrown at them that force each member to examine their own lives, and their own mortality. It’s another fittingly odd and off-beat collection of episodes that sends our heroes to the future, the past and through space and time, while also offering some reveals that tie in with previous events; including at least a handful of surprises that you might not see coming.

The season (and series) all culminates in a quite fitting finale and while I won’t provide any spoilers here for those who haven’t yet had a chance to check out the final batch of episodes, I’ll just say that it ends on a largely rewarding and surprisingly emotional note that offers quite a bit of closure for each of these characters. If you’re a fan of the series but haven’t yet had the opportunity to check out the final season, then I would strongly encourage making a point of doing so whenever you have the time because it’s a sufficient and truly moving conclusion to the show that any fan definitely won’t want to miss out on.

OVERALL:

The fourth and final season of ‘Doom Patrol’ sends our oddball heroes off in a largely fitting fashion that’s heartfelt, emotional and of course just as wild and unpredictable as the rest of the series. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment’s 3-disc Blu-ray release of ‘Doom Patrol: The Fourth and Final Season’ brings home all twelve episodes from the final season of the series with each providing great high definition video and audio presentations on each that are very much in line with the previous season sets of the series on Blu-ray. Featuring a few brief, yet entertaining extras in addition the nice presentations of each episode, it makes for a mostly satisfying release that should fit perfectly on your shelf alongside the other three seasons and shouldn’t elicit any complaints in regards to quality. If you’re a fan of the series that’s been collecting each season on Blu-ray, then this final season set should not disappoint and is definitely recommended.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Doom Patrol: The Fourth and Final Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with the show’s original 2.20:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the fourth season’s episodes. The video presentations look rather great for the most part and deliver clean, sharp and faithful presentations that retain the almost washed out and gloomy appearance of the series and hold up nicely without any concerning issues arising along the way. There are a few brief instances of banding noticeable at times, but they are far from prominent and only make rare, quick appearances that you have to look for to even really notice. Detail is impressive and character faces, clothing and the gloomy mansion setting, along with the various other outdoor and interior sequences all look sharp and solid, with occasional blasts of vibrant color appearing which are nicely balanced by sufficiently deep and rich black levels. Overall, these are very solid high definition video presentations that should have fans of the series quite satisfied.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 12 Season Four episodes. These multichannel soundtracks offer crisp, clean and at times notably aggressive audio presentations for every episode of the final season. They consistently take advantage of all five available channels in order to send music, along with action, vehicle and transportation effects zipping throughout the various speakers quite regularly along with other tidbits whenever appropriate, while always making certain that any additional dialogue or audio elements that might occur simultaneously remain sharp, clean and fully audible throughout. Overall, these are great 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that hold up nicely at every step and should not disappoint.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Doom Patrol: The Fourth and Final Season’ includes a few brief extras in the way of Behind the Scenes Featurettes ‘Unsung Heroes’ (running approximately 3 minutes in length), ‘Transformation Patrol’ (running approximately 3 minutes) and ‘Off-Off-Broadway’ (approximately 4 minutes).
