Synopsis:

Celebrating its 20th anniversary! A harried workaholic, Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) doesn’t have time for his wife (Kate Beckinsale) and children, not if he’s to impress his ungrateful boss and earn a well-deserved promotion. So when he meets Morty (Christopher Walken), a loopy sales clerk, he gets the answer to his prayers: a magical remote that allows him to bypass life’s little distractions with increasingly hysterical results. But as Michael gleefully mutes, skips and scans past his family and his friends, the remote gradually takes over his life and begins to program him, in this fast, funny and out-of-control comedy adventure.

‘Click’ invites viewers to join Michael, a husband, father and above all workaholic who never seems to be able to prioritize his family over his hectic work life and schedule. But when he goes shopping for a universal remote he gets far more than he imagined or bargained for once an odd man gives him a universe control for free. Unbeknownst to Michael, this remote doesn’t just control your home electronics but your entire life; allowing you to rewind, pause or even fast forward through things like marital fights and other inconveniences. As he starts to embrace the remote and jump around through his life, he soon realizes that skipping over various moments and events causes fresh turmoil far worse than he was already dealing with, but is it already too late to change things?

‘Click’ was directed by Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy) from a screenplay written by Steve Koren & Mark O’Keefe, with Coraci doing a nice job at the helm of ‘Click’ guiding along the ride rather smoothly all things considered. The cast of the movie includes Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, Christopher Walken, Henry Winkler, David Hasselhoff, Julie Kavner, Sean Astin and more, with the majority offering generally solid performances altogether in each of their roles.

‘Click’ first debuted theatrically in the summer of 2006 and it still offers up just as much fun and humor (not to mention heartbreak) as it did when initially released and in many respects it holds up great 20 years later (although a few minor tidbits possibly haven’t aged as well such as Rob Schneider’s cameo) and if you were a fan of this one upon its release the odds are you’ll still enjoy it a great deal today if you haven’t revisited it over the years. It’s a unique concept that altogether steers it in a slightly different direction than Adam Sandler fans were accustomed to.

‘Click’ still has plenty of incredibly funny moments that stand out throughout (to this day nothing in the film makes me laugh quite as hard as the cameo from Terry Crews singing along in traffic which always has me rolling) but far more surprising is just how brutally rough it gets emotionally at times, and there are a few moments in here which come close to heart wrenching as things start to get worse for our lead. As a whole it may not be a perfect film but it’s better than many might expect, especially with how much heart it manages to retain along the way and if you enjoy Sandler’s comedic films but might have missed this one it’s definitely worth a watch at some point.

‘Click’ jumps ahead into your home in 4K Ultra HD for the first time in celebration of its 20^th Anniversary, and released alongside the UHD debut of another Sandler favorite ’50 First Dates’ (you can read my review of that 4K UHD release HERE). ‘Click’ debuts on the format sporting a spectacular full Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR10 approved by director Frank Coraci and the stellar new video presentation is nicely paired with a frequently aggressive Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that has this comedic drama looking and sounding tremendous throughout.

In addition to the noteworthy new video and audio offerings provided within, the 4K UHD release of ‘Click’ also features numerous fun extras (the majority if not all of which have been released prior) and while there may not be any thrilling new special features provided, the wonderful new video and audio presentations alone will almost surely be enough to entice any fans that are already contemplating a purchase. If you’re a fan that would love to own it on 4K, then this one is certainly recommended and worth picking up.

VIDEO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Click’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, presented in its original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio and approved by director Frank Coraci. The video presentation looks awfully good and serves up a sharp, colorful and clean presentation from start to finish that never suffers from any issues or faults throughout. Detail never underwhelms and character specifics, surroundings and the brighter shifts between times along with everything else hold up splendidly, while the Dolby Vision HDR offers some improvements on colors and clarity such as clothing and the bright glow of certain moments, and black levels are competently deep, rich and absent of any noticeable problems. Overall, this is a terrific Ultra High Definition presentation that impresses throughout and fans of the film should be extremely pleased.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack (as well as the original Theatrical audio presented in 5.1 DTS-HD MA). Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentation. This multichannel soundtrack does a nice job and delivers a clean, crisp and often notably immersive audio presentation throughout. It utilizes all seven available channels in order to send music, background chatter and some time-shifting and remote-related effects, plus more moving throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate, and all the while ensuring that any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously remain clean and fully audible. Overall, this is solid Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that never disappoints or slips and fans should be very satisfied with the results.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Click’ offers some fun extras, most of which were previously released. Included is an ‘Audio Commentary with the Cast and Crew’, in addition to some ‘Deleted Scenes’ from the movie (running 3 minutes in length altogether), and various Behind the Scenes Featurettes including ‘Make Me Old and Fat’ (running approximately 6 minutes), ‘FX of Click’ (approximately 5 minutes), ‘Design My Universe’ (5 minutes), ‘Cars of the Future’ (3 minutes), ‘Humping Dogs’ (1 minute), ‘Director’s Take’ (4 minutes) and ‘Fine Cookin’ (3 minutes). Also included are the amusing clip ‘Ammer’s Wedding’ (20 seconds) and the film’s ‘Theatrical Trailer’ (2 minutes), plus Credits for the supplements.
