The Warner Archive Collection has officially announced their lineup of Blu-ray releases for the month of September 2025. 5 new titles are scheduled to hit Blu-ray during the month of September including ‘Touché Turtle And Dum Dum: The Complete Series’, ‘The Beast of the City’, ‘Black Samson’, ‘and more. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer borrowed a page from Warner Bros.’ signature gangster genre with this memorable crime caper that helped catapult Jean Harlow to screen stardom. The film features Harlow as Daisy Stevens, a girl who wears too much lipstick, too much peroxide, and too much everything but hope, as she casts her lot with mobsters. In a city that is a cesspool of vice, she has learned that racketeers might manhandle a dame, but they also pay the bills. So, Daisy plays rough when an obsessively uptight cop (Walter Huston) turns blue-coat avenger and goes after her gangland meal tickets. This hard-boiled, pre-Code thriller boasts electric pacing, biting dialogue and a memorable cast of acting veterans. But the one giving the master class in screen presence is 20-year-old Harlow, the white-hot flame that ignites The Beast of the City’s scorching tale of crime and corruption on both sides of the law.

As rakish Macheath, Laurence Olivier rides, robs, woos, dupes, quaffs and sings in a pleasing light baritone in The Beggar’s Opera, an ale-and-hearty filmization of John Gay’s historic comic operetta. This ebullient and unique film does more than revive many ballads of Gay’s enduring 1728 work; it also stunningly re-creates an era. Peter Brook (the stage legend in his film directing debut) and his moviemaking team used the richly detailed paintings of Restoration artist William Hogarth as inspiration for the film’s colorful locales (stunningly photographed by Guy Green) and lively gallery of rogues, scoundrels and wenches.

Synopsis: Rockne Tarkington stars as the titular hero in this “blaxploitation” cult favorite. When white drug dealers try to move their operation into the ‘hood, they do not plan on a local nightclub owner, a master of martial arts known locally as Black Samson. Nefarious individuals try to make a deal with Samson. Then, they try to kill him. But when they beat up his girlfriend, the dealers go too far. Samson leads his pet lion and the people of his neighborhood in a war that drives the drug pushers out of Samson’s piece of the ‘hood. Based on the Humphrey Bogart star-making classic High Sierra, I Died a Thousand Times brings the enveloping expanse of CinemaScope® and an enriched color palette to the gritty saga of Roy “Mad Dog” Earle (Jack Palance). The action begins when Earle is released from prison and leads two nervous small-time crooks (Lee Marvin and Earl Holliman) to a resort heist fated not to go like clockwork. Soft-hearted Earle b to a crippled girl (Lori Nelson) that he pays for a curative operation. But when things go wrong it is a brassy dime-a dance girl (Shelley Winters) who stands beside him.
Veterans Lon Chaney, Jr. and Mae Clarke and then-newcomers Dennis Hopper and Richard Davalos are featured in the topflight cast. With a taut script by High Sierra novelist W.R. Burnett and a heart pounding manhunt finale, I Died a Thousand Times is a rousing, memorable thriller.
