Synopsis:

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow follows a group of misfit heroes as they fight, talk, and sing their way through protecting the timeline from aberrations, anomalies, and anything else that threatens to mess with history.  After saving the world via the power of song and themed entertainment in last season’s finale, the Legends are major celebrities.  Some struggle with the transition from lovable losers to A-list stars, while others start letting fame go to their heads. When a documentary crew decides to film the Legends in action, distracting them from their original mission, Astra Logue frees history’s most notorious villains from Hell in a bid for power. It’s up to the Legends to forgo fame and stop these reanimated souls (who they quickly dub “Encores”) from wreaking havoc on the timeline, whether it’s Rasputin popping out of his coffin and trying to become an immortal tsar or Marie Antoinette (and her head) turning the French Revolution into a deadly, non-stop party.

The fifth season of ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ sees our favorite group of time-jumping and world saving legends taking on a fresh handful of challenges both across time and among the crew themselves. After their success saving the world in last season’s finale, things have changed although unbeknownst to the team; including the disappearance of Zari and the arrival of her previously deceased brother appearing in her place and the dangerous threats Constantine finds himself tackling which could lead to more deadly forces and consequences than even he is prepared to take on. But as the crew tries to get their personal issues sorted, they will also have to continue saving the world, especially when a bunch of noteworthy villains from throughout time return to life to wreak fresh havoc.

Season five of ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ takes viewers on another thrilling and wildly entertaining set of adventures loaded with the humor, stylish action and over the top silliness that’s become a welcome trademark of this incredibly fun series over the years. The latest season rejoins our legends as they must take on various new threats including one individual in hell with a grudge against Constantine who unleashes various noteworthy criminals and mass murderers throughout time, sending the likes of Genghis Khan, Jack the Ripper and many more infamous baddies from throughout the ages back to earth to cause new trouble for our team to combat as they struggle to stop their latest deadly plans and send each back down below where they belong. Unfortunately for our group of heroes, these dangerous threats are only the beginning of what they’ll be forced to confront this year, while also trying to figure out some more personal dilemmas in this new fifteen-episode season loaded with heart, humor action and just a whole lot of grin-inducing fun around every turn. This series certainly hasn’t lost any steam throughout the years so far and fans that might have fallen behind on the latest season will definitely want to make a point of catching up before season six debuts in 2021.

Fans should also be thrilled to see the latest season release of the series finally getting a little more room for the bitrate on each episode to breathe. While all previous season releases of the show featured the same number (if not more) episodes it was always confined to 2 discs, yet Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Blu-ray release for ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Fifth Season’ changes things up and includes the 15 episode season in a 3-disc collection (4 discs when including the limited edition ‘Crisis’ Bonus Disc) and features only five episodes per disc as opposed to the usual 8 or more which helps to allow for an even smoother presentation than usual with a more substantial bitrate on each episode; something that fans definitely won’t be disappointed to see.

Overall, the fifth season of ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ is another fantastic set of adventures throughout time as our heroes take on plenty of deadly new threats and villains, and always with the show’s splendidly silly style. Loaded with action, adventure, humor and even some truly heartfelt moments, the legends are back and just as exciting as ever. The latest season never loses its way and serves up a massively entertaining set of new episodes that shouldn’t have any trouble keeping fans glued to the screen and anxiously awaiting what will happen next. I would strongly urge fans of the series that haven’t yet had the pleasure of season five to make a point of catching up whenever possible, you definitely won’t want to even contemplate writing this show off just yet.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Fifth Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the fifth season’s episodes (and all five episodes featured on the limited edition Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover event Bonus Disc with the exception of a few scenes that are presented in Cinemascope). The video presentations look fantastic as a whole, especially with the surprising yet quite welcome choice on Warner’s end to add an extra disc to this year’s release, spreading all fifteen episodes between three discs as opposed to two as was the case with the previous four seasons. The choice only allows each episode more room to breathe and the result is sharp, clean and nicely detailed presentations on every episode, with no notable faults or troubles to be uncovered along the way. Overall, these are wonderful high definition video presentations that look consistently great and should easily thrill the fans.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 15 Season Five episodes (plus all 5 episodes featured on the crossover event bonus disc). These multichannel soundtracks deliver crisp, smooth and quite aggressive audio presentations on every episode. They constantly embrace all five available channels in order to send spacecraft, vehicles, action effects and a whole lot more regularly zipping throughout the various speakers whenever fitting, and never conflicting with any dialogue or other audio elements that may be occurring simultaneously. Overall, these are magnificent 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that sound wonderful throughout and repeatedly contribute some additional fun to the overall viewing experience.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-ray release of ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete Fifth Season’ includes a few notable extras that fans of the series should have fun with including ‘Deleted Scene(s)’ from 13 of the included episodes (running approximately 32 minutes in length altogether), in addition to a ‘Gag Reel’ for the new season (running approximately 8 minutes) and a new edition of ‘Post Production Theatre’ (approximately 4 minutes), plus even more goofy fun with the ‘More Fun Moments Collection’ (12 minutes).

The Blu-ray release will also initially include a Limited Edition ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ Bonus Disc (the Bonus Disc is identical to the one also included on the ‘Arrow: Season Eight’, ‘The Flash: Season Six’, ‘Batwoman: Season One’ and ‘Supergirl: Season 5’ Blu-ray releases) which includes all five episodes from the epic crossover event, along with some related extras. In the way of bonus content, the Crisis Bonus Disc includes a handful of Behind the Scenes Featurettes exploring the process of bringing the event to life. They include: ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Architects Return’ (running approximately 12 minutes in length), ‘Crisis Management’ (running approximately 13 minutes), ‘Crisis Past and Present: Kevin Conroy Bat Legend’ (approximately 3 minutes), ‘Crisis Past and Present: Superman vs. Superman’ (4 minutes), ‘Characters in Crisis: Pariah’ (4 minutes) and ‘Characters in Crisis: The Anti-Monitor’ (5 minutes).
