Plot Summary:

Old-school U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is reassigned from Miami to his childhood home in the poor, rural coal-mining towns in Eastern Kentucky.

justified.s04.01Welcome back to the Emmy Award Winning series ‘Justified’ and its fourth season. For those who aren’t familiar, Timothy Olyphant stars in the lead role of US Marshall Raylan Givens who is forced to return to his hometown in Kentucky after shooting a man in a crowded Miami restaurant during breakfast. Upon returning home he is forced to not only deal with his continuing work issues due to his lack of following orders or listening to authority, as well as deal with faces from his past that he was hoping never to come across again.

Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins once again give absolutely stunning performances in season four and are two actors that are very high in my book of favorites thesejustified.s04.02 days. In addition to Olyphant, Goggins and the rest of the cast (which is surprisingly great all around the board) this season features an extended guest appearance by Jim Beaver (Supernatural) who we have seen on the show previously, but whom is far more front present this time around and does a great job holding his own with this incredibly talented cast. In addition to Beaver, Patton Oswalt also appears in this season and gives an impressive, hard edged and hilarious performance in his portrayal of Bob, a Harland County Constable who is determined to be taken seriously and prove his worth. While Oswalt is only present in a few episodes this season, he definitely stands out and is a wonderful addition to the series. Rumor has it the character of Constable Bob will be returning for season five as well, so here is hoping that really is the case.

Overall: ‘Justified: The Complete Fourth Season’ is another phenomenal season of this truly fantastic series which continues to prove itself as one of the best shows currently airing on television. Fans of the series will absolutely want to pick up a copy of Season Four on Blu-Ray to add to their collection, because it really is a pretty impressive season set and one that I know I’ll personally be revisiting many times in the future. If you have yet to have the pleasure of ‘Justified’ I would highly recommend giving it a shot because it really is a fantastic piece of television that is not to be missed.

VIDEO:

The video on the Blu-Ray release of ‘Justified: The Complete Fourth Season’ is a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio. Once again, fans can rest assured that the video presentation on the Blu-Ray release of the season is a vast improvement over the High Definition broadcast of the show. I know I am always thrown for a loop at first when revisiting the latest season on Blu because I forget just how amazing the show looks and sounds in this format. The video presentation is spot on in every regard, down to the edges, shapes and fast movement. Sony really knows how to give people what they want on a Blu-Ray release and this season set is just yet another stunning example of that fact.

AUDIO:

The Blu-Ray release features an uncompressed English 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 13 episodes of the fourth season which sounds pretty amazing and is a huge step up from the lossy 5.1 channel Dolby Digital soundtrack in which the show was originally broadcast. Bullets and debris really start flying throughout all of the 5 channels in the scenes where gunfights and explosions come into play and everything sounds sharp, detailed and pretty much as perfect as it gets. The fellow audiophiles out there who are also fans of the show will certainly be quite excited about the lossless 5.1 channel soundtracks on this Blu-Ray collection.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘Justified: The Complete Fourth Season’ is certainly sufficiently packed with some pretty great extras. Included are commentary tracks on 10 of the fourth seasons 13 episodes, as well as ‘Deleted Scenes’ ‘Outtakes’ ‘Anatomy of an Episode’ ‘The Veterans’ Experience’. My personal two favorite extras, a featurette titled ‘Constable Bob: Deadly Serious’ which is a 7 minute look at Patton Oswalt’s character Constable Bob who was introduced in the fourth season, as well as both the relationship and fondness both he and those involved with the show shared prior to his involvement on the series. For fans of Patton Oswalt, this is one bonus feature that is not to be missed! My other favorite extra on this collection is a Blu-Ray exclusive, so please note you will not find it on the DVD release. It is titled ‘Becoming Boyd’ and includes interviews with the cast and creators of the show discussing the character of Boyd (portrayed by the amazing Walton Goggins) and just how far he has come and what makes him tick, as well as giving insight on the creative process involved in how this character came to be where he is now over the course of the show’s four seasons. Lastly, there is a second Blu-Ray exclusive extra which is titled ‘Script to Screen: The Finale’. As you can clearly see, this Blu-Ray collection features a more than healthy supply of additional goodies for the fans to delve far deeper into this season of ‘Justified’ than they ever imagined possible.
