Former race-car driver Brent Magna is pitted against the clock when his wife is kidnapped by a mysterious villain. He commandeers a young woman’s car and takes her on on a high-speed race against time.
‘Getaway’ tells the story of an ex-professional racer who after returning to his wife’s hometown in Bulgaria comes home to find his house destroyed and his wife taken, followed by a phone call with a mysterious stranger telling him he will have to do everything he tells him to if he ever wants to see his wife again. After acquiring a custom Shelby Cobra rigged with camera surveillance both inside and out, he is ordered to drive through the streets of Bulgaria following different sets of instructions which all include causing mayhem and frenetic situations throughout the city. After the original owner of the car tries to steal the vehicle back from him, she becomes a part of the whole mess too, and soon they both begin to realize that things are much more than they seem and that drastic measures and some smart thinking will be required if they have any chance of surviving this dangerous and high speed night.
While ‘Getaway’ does have additional actors involved at moments, aside from the voice, the only two actors with any significant screen time whatsoever are Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez. Ethan Hawke does an impressive and wholly competent job in his role as usual, and Selena Gomez does a surprisingly impressive job as well and seemed to have no problem holding her own with the likes of such a capable and talented actor as Hawke.
‘Getaway’ is basically one ninety minute mayhem filled, intense car chase sequence through the streets of Bulgaria. It may not be a perfect film, but it knows exactly what it wants to be and does a pretty excellent job of achieving just that. If you find yourself in the mood for a fun and highly entertaining popcorn action film then this is definitely one you would likely enjoy and is worth checking out.
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Getaway’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 2.4:1 Cinemascope Aspect Ratio. The video presentation here is top notch. Considering the constant movement and frenetic activity present throughout the majority of the film, the video presentation does an impressive job of capturing every detail without letting anything blur or slide out of place. This is definitely a very impressive video transfer that everyone should be more than satisfied with.
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Getaway’ features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. With all of the insanity occurring nearly nonstop throughout this movie, this lossless 5.1 soundtrack barely gets a chance to breathe, and it never has any issue keeping up. Every channel is consistently filled with noises galore including, crashes, horns being honked, tires skidding and much more zooming around the 5 channels throughout. All of the fellow audiophiles such as me out there should be very impressed with this wild and bass heavy lossless soundtrack.
While this Blu-Ray release is not jam packed with extras, it includes five bonus features which I think would be best described as behind the scenes mini-featurettes. Each of the five behind the scenes specials/featurettes is just over a minute long and explore different behind the scenes aspects of the film along with comments from the cast and crew. The five behind the scenes bonus features are titled: Crash Cams, Destroying A Custom Shelby, Metal and Asphalt, Selena Gomez: On Set & The Train Station. While the behind the scenes looks are not lengthy, a number of them actually do provide some pretty interesting insight on the production of the film.

Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake, taking it and its unwitting owner (Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.
