Taylor Sheridan invites viewers to visit ‘The Madison’, an emotional and moving new series that follows a family who uproots their life in the heart of New York after a devastating tragedy and heads for the rural lands of Montanna’s Madison River Valley in order to tie up loose ends and try to process their grief together. Stacy, along with her two grown daughters, granddaughters and son in law initially struggle to adapt to a way of life where even the bathroom is outdoors, yet as they settle in and begin to appreciate the slower way of the world there, they find a beauty and heart within the minimally populated area that they never anticipated.

‘The Madison’ was created for television by Taylor Sheridan who also writes all six episodes of the first season, while Christina Alexandra Voros serves as director for every episode. The notable cast of the series includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, Beau Garrett, Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Amiah Miller, Alaina Pollack, Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, Danielle Vasinova, Rebecca Spence and Matthew Fox, along with more and the majority each offer terrific and capable performances in their roles that repeatedly complement the story, although Pfeiffer’s powerful performance often steals the show.

[Blu-Ray Review] The Madison: Season One; Now Available From Paramount 3

‘The Madison’ is a powerful tale of life, loss and grief that explores a family’s journey to reestablish a purpose and hope following a horrific and unexpected tragedy that changes everything in the blink of an eye. Easily the most intimate and emotional series to date from powerhouse TV creator Taylor Sheridan that’s also his most visually stunning offering; with truly breathtaking views of the sprawling Montanna landscape and beyond that alone are probably worth watching for. It’s the type of series that can work or underwhelm depending on the capability of the cast and writing and lead star Michelle Pfeiffer is certainly up to the challenge as she delivers a heart wrenching and unforgettable portrayal of a decent woman trying to find her way back to normalcy after an unthinkable loss. The supporting cast repeatedly complements her marvelous performance and Sheridan finds plenty of ways to make our hearts feel the impact of what this family is enduring so don’t expect to get through this one without some tears and heartache.

The debut season consists of six episodes and a second season was reportedly completed prior to the first even getting a premiere date (it’s now also been renewed for a third) and it’s a truly touching and heartbreaking show that never veers away from the pain and emotion of the story, and it’s also frequently quite humorous as well, with plenty of fish out of water humor to elicit some laughs as this family is forced to adapt to a world and life unlike anything they could have imagined or anticipated. If you’re a fan of Taylor Sheridan’s shows or of the key cast here, then ‘The Madison’ is definitely worth making a point of checking out if you haven’t yet had the chance.

All six episodes from the debut season of Taylor Sheridan’s ‘The Madison’ make their way home in the 2-disc ‘The Madison: Season One’ Blu-ray release from Paramount Home Entertainment. The Blu-ray set offers notably gorgeous full High Definition presentations for every episode of the first season that do a nice job of showcasing the sprawling landscapes and other visual excellence of the series throughout and they’re nicely complemented by Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtracks which mark a first for a physical release of a Sheridan series. Together they have the series looking and sounding pretty spectacular, with the six episodes split between two discs for optimal quality. The release may not include any bonus content, although for fans of this emotionally riveting and utterly beautiful series that would love to physically own it in HD, this Blu-ray release should not disappoint and is recommended.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘The Madison: Season One’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with a 2.39:1 aspect ratio on every episode of the first season. The video presentations look very good and provide clean, sharp and richly detailed presentations on every episode that hold up well throughout and never suffer from any glaring issues or troubles to be found along the way. Details are wonderful as a whole and just about everything from character specifics to the gorgeous scenery and sprawling landscapes showcased throughout look generally clean and colorful, while black levels tend to stay rich, deep and problem free. Overall, these are great High Definition presentations that do their job well and look quite beautiful throughout.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack on all 6 Season One episodes. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentations. These multichannel soundtracks may not be nearly as hard hitting or aggressive as many modern Atmos soundtracks but they do their job capably to say the least and deliver clean, crisp and at times rewardingly immersive audio presentations throughout. They utilize all seven available channels in order to send music, plane and storm activity along with other various vehicle and nature related effects, and more throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate, although being a dialogue heavy series the activity is frequently centered. Overall, these are solid Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtracks that may not blow your socks off but hold up nicely and shouldn’t disappoint.
