Synopsis:

Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn star in this fast-talking, offbeat mob comedy, now presented for the first time in 4K. Made follows long-time friends Bobby and Ricky, small-time operators on the edges of the L.A. underworld, whose trip to New York on behalf of a minor mob figure (Peter Falk) quickly spirals into a chaotic, darkly comic run through the city’s criminal margins.

‘Made’ tells the story of two struggling friends who jump at the opportunity to prove their worth by embarking on an out-of-town job for the head of the local crime family.  Bobby is a quiet man who is always careful to speak up at the right time or else quietly do what he needs, while Ricky is a fast-talking hyper man who repeatedly says things that he shouldn’t without so much as a second thought. As the two head out of town to do a job even while having no knowledge of what that job is or might entail, it soon turns into a chaotic clash that will test their smarts and abilities.

‘Made’ was written and directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Elf) who does a wonderful job at the helm guiding along his own humorous and clever screenplay with heart and style. The film’s cast includes Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn, Sean Combs, Famke Janssen, Faizon Love, David O’Hara, Vincent Pastore and Peter Falk, with just about everyone providing capable and solid performances in each of their roles that contribute positively to the film throughout.

‘Made’ was first released in the Summer of 2001 and still delivers a thoroughly enjoyable, hilarious, vulgar and often amusingly awkward ride with a terrific cast to back it all up, not to mention once again showcasing the great chemistry between Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn. ‘Made’ actually came about as a result of the pair wanting to work together again after their standout performances in ‘Swingers’ which introduced audiences to the pair and highlighted how well they work together and the idea of a mob comedy supposedly came up from Favreau’s great experience working on an episode of The Sopranos.

Favreau handles directing duties for the film from his own script and produces along with Vaugn and while it’s a very different type of film in many respects, the way these two so organically bounce off of each other and bicker in a way that allows you to fully believe them as lifelong friends helps this one to work so splendidly and become something special.  If you’re a fan of both stars or either (or of Favreau’s work behind the camera) but have never had the pleasure of ‘Made’ then I would strongly encourage going out of your way to give it a whirl, especially with it now available in stellar UHD for the first time at last.

Jon Favreau’s comedic crime tale ‘Made’ arrives home on 4K UHD for the first time in a collectible new Steelbook release from Lionsgate Limited in celebration of its 25^th Anniversary. The 4K release features the film with a gorgeous new full Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10 that looks great and is nicely paired up with an equally solid Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that together have this fun ride looking and sounding far better than it ever has at home previously.

The release also features various archival extras from Commentary to Deleted Scenes and Featurettes and it’s packed with a Blu-ray copy (also featuring the new transfer and Atmos audio) which is packed inside a collectible Steelbook with original artwork by Robert Bruno. If you’re a dedicated fan of Favreau’s work or just a fan of this film alone that would love to own it in 4K then this Lionsgate Limited exclusive Steelbook of ‘Made’ shouldn’t disappoint and is recommended.

VIDEO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Steelbook release of ‘Made’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition video presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10 presented in its original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks terrific as a whole and delivers a clean, sharp and filmic presentation from start to finish that’s nicely detailed at every turn and absent of any noticeable issues to be located along the way. Details are stellar on character specifics, the interiors of clubs and the limo, along with exteriors and just about everything else, and the Dolby Vision HDR offers a wider color palette with some more lifelike colors noticeable on pieces of clothing and more, while black levels are sufficiently deep, rich and problem free. Overall, this is a wonderful Ultra High Definition presentation that marks a great improvement over previous home entertainment releases that should have fans very excited.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentation. This multichannel soundtrack is a nice improvement as well and it provides a crisp, clean and fairly immersive audio presentation throughout. It utilizes all seven available channels in order to send music, crowd chatter, some minor vehicle effects and more throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate, while always making certain that all dialogue and other audio elements that may be occurring simultaneously remain clean and fully audible. Overall, this is a very nice Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that may not be wildly aggressive but always holds up well and shouldn’t disappoint.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Steelbook release of ‘Made’ features some enjoyable, previously released extras. Included is an ‘Audio Commentary with Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn’, along with a collection of ‘Deleted and Alternate Scenes’ with optional commentary (running approximately 41 minutes in length altogether) and some ‘Outtakes’ (running approximately 23 minutes overall). We’re also treated to some Behind the Scenes Featurettes including ‘Making the Music of Made’ (approximately 16 minutes), ‘The Creative Process’ (14 minutes) and ‘Getting it Made’ (9 minutes). The 35mm ‘Teaser Trailer’ and ‘Theatrical Trailer’ (approximately 2 minutes combined) are also included.
