EPiC features long-lost footage from Presley’s legendary Vegas residency in the 1970s, woven together with rare 16mm footage from Elvis on Tour and treasured 8mm film from the Graceland archive, along with rediscovered recordings of Elvis telling ‘his side of the story’. With EPiC, Luhrmann transforms unearthed archival material into an electrifying cinematic odyssey that captures Elvis at his best; raw, human, eccentrically humorous, intimate and electric.

‘Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert’ is nothing short of astounding; a truly mesmerizing and unforgettable exploration of the music legend that’s cut, crafted and delivered with Luhrmann’s beloved hyper-cut style and it works perfectly for this musical gem that shows off Elvis in some intimate performances that have never before been released and were long thought to be either lost or myth.

The film not only offers a wealth of great footage from the performances but does a tremendous job of balancing it with the other footage. Many of the song performances regularly shift between three different settings as it showcases the rehearsal/concept as well as the final performance in front of the audience while regularly shifting between them all and it results in an almost hypnotic feeling at times while you can’t help but just be amazed at how splendidly this actually works; I must have had a smile plastered on my face for most of the film honestly and I’m already ready to revisit it soon. Quite simply, this is a beautiful, powerful and just plain enjoyable look at one of music’s biggest legends done like never before and probably not something any Elvis fan will want to overlook.

Overall, ‘Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert’ truly is Epic and it serves up a moving, music-driven ride that looks at some key points in the life of the legendary musician, while also showing off a collection of remarkable footage long believed lost that is an absolute joy to behold. If you’re a fan of Elvis or even if you’re not and merely appreciate his iconic story and remarkable life then ‘‘Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert’ is highly recommended and not to be missed. A beautiful, emotional and foot-tapping treat that you have to see to believe and if you’re even mildly interested it’s well worth your time and the price of a rental at the absolute least to check out. If you are a notable Elvis fan though then the odds are you will likely want to own this spectacular musical gem at some point, although some diehard fans may also want to wait for the collectible Steelbook release expected to hit stores in November.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition SDR presentation presented primarily in its original 2.39:1 Aspect Ratio with a handful of scenes and footage presented in a full-screen 4×3 presentation. The video presentation looks pretty impressive and solid, especially considering the age and potential quality of the source material for much of the movie. It delivers a mostly clean, sharp and vibrant presentation that shines and shouldn’t elicit many complaints from fans considering, and the colors are bright and generally gorgeous, even without any HDR included on the release. Overall, this is a very nice Ultra High Definition presentation that may not be perfect but looks pretty amazing all things considered and it should excite fans.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. This multichannel soundtrack throws you into the middle of the music and provides a clean, sharp and frequently immersive audio presentation throughout. While nearly all of the dialogue and interview content is centered in the front, the songs benefit tremendously from the surround elements and overtake all five available channels while sounding truly marvelous. Overall, this is a fun 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack that’s all about the music and does a terrific job of immersing you in these iconic songs.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert’ doesn’t offer any real extras, although it does include some promos for the film including the ‘Teaser’ and ‘Trailer’ (running roughly 90 seconds apiece) and ‘2 TV Spots’ (approximately 30 seconds each) for the movie.
