Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Wheelsy could be any small town in America — somewhat quaint and gentle, peopled with friendly folks who mind their own business. But just beneath the surface charm, something unnamed and evil has arrived…and is growing. Intent on devouring all life on Earth, this dark and slimy entity is infecting anyone in its path. Now it’s up to the local sheriff, Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion, Firefly, Serenity), and his team to stop the spread of rampant devastation – and shocking mutilation – before it’s too late. This outrageously funny horror film also stars Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Walking Dead), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) and Gregg Henry (Body Double, Jason Bourne).

[4K Ultra HD Review] Slither (Steelbook); Available June 23, 2026 From Scream Factory 1

‘Slither’ invites you to the small town of Wheelsy that revels in its community and small town vibe. But when the town is invaded by a plethora of terrifying and illogical elements it sends the community into a panic as the townspeople and its sheriff are forced to take on a surge of slimy, speedy slugs, zombielike infested residents spitting acid-like slime and one man who is undergoing some truly horrific changes after uncovering a mystery egg in the woods. Now the whole town will have to join forces and fight for their lives before every one of them is overtaken by the entity.

‘Slither’ is written and directed by James Gunn (Superman, Super) who does a fantastic job at the helm guiding along the wildly ridiculous and nasty ride that still remains one of the best horror comedy offerings in recent decades. The film’s cast includes Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, Gregg Henry, Michael Rooker, Don Thompson, Tania Saulnier, Jenna Fischer, and more with the majority each doing a solid job altogether in their roles and contributing nicely to the chaotic fun and excitement.

[4K Ultra HD Review] Slither (Steelbook); Available June 23, 2026 From Scream Factory 2

‘Slither’ was first unleashed upon moviegoers in 2006 and it still serves up a wildly entertaining ride today, twenty years after its debut. While many fans of Gunn’s became familiar with him from Guardians of the Galaxy or the new Superman and many others via his work at Troma prior, for me ‘Slither’ was my introduction to his work when it first hit home video and it immediately blew me away with its witty dialogue, wildly gross antics and a terrific cast that only enhances the other elements in its favor and it’s safe to say it hasn’t lost any of its charm over the years since.

‘Slither’ is still an absolute blast and it serves up a twisted, bloody and darkly hilarious good time from start to finish that borrows tidbits from many other popular horror films that come together into a mashup of horror craziness like only Gunn is capable of making work this splendidly. If you enjoy similar twisted horror comedy films but haven’t had the pleasure of ‘Slither’ then I can’t possibly urge you strongly enough to rectify that at your earliest convenience, especially with it now available in stunning 4K for the first time.

VIDEO:

The Scream Factory Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Slither’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR10 with the film’s original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio, featuring a new 4K Scan From The 35mm Interpositive Approved By Writer/Director James Gunn And Director Of Photography Gregory Middleton. The video presentation looks pretty spectacular as a whole and marks a notable improvement over Scream Factory’s previous 2017 Blu-ray release thanks to the rewarding new transfer. Detail is fantastic on character specifics, the open landscapes and the slimy, gooey creatures and other practical effects on display throughout. The Dolby Vision HDR improves various colors throughout such as greenery, blood and the acid spit which stands out more than ever, while black levels are deep, rich and problem free. Overall, this is a wonderful Ultra High Definition presentation that looks incredibly good every step of the way and it should have fans extremely pleased.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentation. This multichannel soundtrack is a lot of fun itself and it offers a clean, crisp and fairly aggressive audio presentation throughout. It repeatedly takes advantage of all seven available channels in order to send music, bullets and debris, slimy slithering and tentacles snatching, along with a whole lot more whipping throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate, while always making certain that any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously remain clean and fully audible. Overall, this is a very solid Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that delivers nicely throughout and shouldn’t elicit and complaints.
