The Extra-Terrestrial’, ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, and ‘War of the Worlds’. Now fans can revisit every unforgettable moment and experience the wonder, beauty, horror and every other emotion elicited by the beloved filmmaker’s work over the years once again; sporting collectible Steelbook artwork for each film, and all housed in a deluxe library case that’s guaranteed to stand out on your shelf.
Steven Spielberg is quite simply one of the greatest filmmakers of our era. Sure there are plenty of other noteworthy individuals that are building an impressive collection of offerings, but it’s hard to find many with a career that compares to the great Spielberg who has been helming numerous hits and more than one or two of the greatest films in memory, and this box set may not offer anywhere even remotely close to his entire filmography to date, but the presentation, look and quality of this outstanding set match the quality of the man’s directing talents and anyone impressed by the general look in the photos will only be even more thrilled by how tremendous it is in person (and hefty at that).
From ‘Jaws’ to ‘War of the Worlds’ not to mention numerous masterpieces in between like ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and more, the release features matching disc art, along with the original theatrical posters on each individual Steelbook, plus a memorable quote from each film on the rear of the steel and behind the scenes stills on the interiors. It’s an impeccably created release that’s tailored to the diehard fan and any fan of Spielberg’s work should be truly delighted to have this gem on display in their collection.
‘Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection’ brings home 8 unforgettable films from legendary director Steven Spielberg (‘Jaws’, ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’, ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’, ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’, ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Schindler’s List’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘War of the Worlds’) in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and Digital and with solid, impressive packaging unique to this collection. All eight films offer terrific Ultra High Definition presentations on 4K that are perfectly paired with lossless audio options (Dolby Atmos on six of the films, DTS-X on one and DTS-HD MA on the last; more specifics on that in the audio section below) and a wealth of bonus content throughout.
The 8 films each feature Steelbook packaging showcasing the original theatrical artwork within a black border and each of the individual Steelbook cases are securely packed within an 8-slot deluxe library case that features embedded wording and a sturdy, metallic feel. While there may be many fans that already own each of these films in 4K and therefore might be understandably hesitant to buy them all again for the specialty price of this set, yet for those who don’t and the collectors who are intrigued by the standout packaging and design, this set is highly recommended. If you can afford to drop the money on it and would like to own it, you should be extremely thrilled with what it has to offer.
VIDEO:
‘Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection’ features all 8 films on 4K UHD and Blu-ray, with the 4K discs sporting marvelous full Ultra High Definition presentations with the majority also featuring Dolby Vision and HDR10 while ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ and ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’ feature solely HDR10. It is worth noting that the ‘Jurassic Park’ 4K disc is the remastered version with Dolby Vision + Atmos and not the original somewhat troubled 4K disc initially released. One thing about all eight releases is that they look spectacular on 4K and range from utterly flawless to nearly so and none of the presentations leave much room for disappointment, if any. With source-faithful presentations that showcase grain when appropriate to the rich black and white detail of ‘Schindler’s List’ and the gritty, intentionally tamed down color of ‘Saving Private Ryan’ to the vibrant pop visible in ‘War of the Worlds’, every presentation holds up beautifully without any notable issues or troubles to be located throughout. Overall, this set delivers outstanding Ultra High Definition presentations on all eight films that may feature previously released transfers but fortunately they all look terrific and should thoroughly excite any fans who haven’t had the pleasure of any or all of them prior.
AUDIO:
‘Steven Spielberg: The Spotlight Collection’ features Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtracks on the 4K UHD disc of each film in the set with the exception of ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ which features a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack and ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial’ which features a DTS-X (DTS-HD MA 7.1 compatible) soundtrack. Each of the soundtracks offer up an immersive viewing experience and while a few may keep things somewhat tamer in the surround department, many others deliver wildly aggressive offerings; particularly ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘War of the Worlds’ which feature truly outstanding and pounding audio presentations, yet none of them are lacking by any means, with each keeping the dialogue and other key factors fully intelligible and clean. Overall, all eight films provide rewarding lossless audio presentations that hold up incredibly well and contribute notably to the viewing experience, and none should elicit any real complaints from fans.
