Synopsis:

This six-disc Blu-ray collection features the “Looney Tunes Cartoons” series of short-form animation, as seen on HBO MAX, starring the iconic and beloved Looney Tunes characters. With multiple artists employing a visual style that echoes the high production value and process of the original Looney Tunes theatrical shorts, these recently produced animated adventures have a cartoonist-driven approach to storytelling. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and other marquee Looney Tunes characters are featured in gag-driven and visually vibrant stories. The cartoon segments vary from one to six minutes in length and, from the premise on through to the jokes, were “written” and drawn by the cartoonists, allowing their own personality and style to come through each and every segment. Looney Tunes Cartoons provide an ample helping of laughs and madcap fun that carry on the tradition of inspired humor that began with the original theatrical Warner Bros. cartoons from the classic era.

‘Looney Tunes Cartoons’ invites fans both new and old to experience a new revamped take on the beloved property that features nearly all of your favorite stars from Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig to Marvin the Martian, Sylvester and Tweety, plus so many more as they are each highlighted within getting up to plenty of hilarious hijinks. Following a very similar formula to the iconic Looney Tunes shorts, ‘Looney Tunes Cartoons’ is here to offer a more modern but immensely familiar new look at these beloved Looney stars that should keep longtime fans giggling and amused while also offering a nice introduction to the animated stars for a new generation of viewers to appreciate.

‘Looney Tunes Cartoons’ made its wide debut as one of the earlier MAX originals upon its launch (then titled HBO Max before shifting to MAX and later returning to the original name), with the first batch of episodes premiering in May of 2020 and running for a total of six seasons before concluding its run in June of 2024. It features the voice talents of Eric Bauza, Jeff Bergman, Bob Bergen, Fred Tatasciore, Candi Milo and more taking on the various iconic voice roles for the series.

The series does a tremendous job of bringing these beloved characters back to the forefront and while seeing some mild alterations from the original Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts of old, they tend to say remarkably true to the style, tone and formula of those unforgettable classics, merely with a sharper, more vibrant (and of course widescreen) look that aligns with today’s animation to some degree, yet never abandoning the animated look that is so iconic and important to the characters.

You may not find every single one of your favorite Looney Tunes stars featured within, yet fans will be pleasantly surprised with just how many do show up; featuring many key stars synonymous with Looney Tunes such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky and Petunia Pig, along with Taz, Tweety, Sylvester and Granny, as well as Marvin the Martian, Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner, Foghorn Leghorn, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam and more. At the same time it also features many slightly less iconic (but still equally beloved for many) characters such as Ralph and Sam, The Three Bears, Hubie and Bertie and quite a few others.

Not only are there plenty of familiar favorites within, but the series is an absolute blast in addition and serves up nonstop hilarity, stupidity and fun around every turn that stays surprisingly true to the Looney Tunes shorts that many of us grew up with. If you’ve held off on this one expecting to be disappointed or underwhelmed then I would strongly encourage you to rethink that and give this series a whirl because you may just be surprised with how incredibly fun and faithful it actually is.

The entire 82 episode run of the new animated series arrives home in the 6-disc ‘Looney Tunes Cartoons: The Complete Series’ Blu-ray set from Warner Archive Collection which serves up outstanding full High Definition presentations of every single episode that look nothing short of spectacular. The stellar HD video presentations are nicely complemented by multichannel DTS-HD MA soundtracks that together serve up every animated antic looking and sounding better than ever and fans should be extremely excited with the results. The set also includes 12 animated shorts created for the 2024 and 2026 Olympics which are awfully amusing themselves. If you’re a Looney Tunes fan (and especially if you’re a fan of this reboot series) that’s even mildly contemplating a purchase than this Blu-ray set is very highly recommended and definitely well worth adding to your collection whenever possible.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Looney Tunes Cartoons: The Complete Series’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation on all 82 episodes of the animated series presented in their original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentations looks wonderful as a whole and they each offer clean, sharp and vibrantly colored presentations from start to finish that never suffer from any issues or troubles to be uncovered along the way. Detail is outstanding on characters, backgrounds and everything else and the great detail is repeatedly enhanced by bright, bold and gorgeous colors throughout that never underwhelm. Overall, these are fantastic High Definition presentations that look remarkable at every turn and they should easily thrill fans and newcomers alike.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release includes a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 82 episodes. These multichannel soundtracks are pretty solid in their own right and they deliver crisp, clean and mildly immersive audio presentations throughout. While the majority of noticeable activity is typically relegated to the front channels, they do utilize all five available channels throughout in order to send some music and other small elements throughout the various speakers, while never causing any conflictions or issues with dialogue or other audio elements which always remain sharp and fully audible. Overall, these are solid 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that may not be overwhelmingly immersive but do their job very well nonetheless and shouldn’t elicit any complaints.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Looney Tunes Cartoons: The Complete Series’ features a collection of 12 ‘Looney Tunes: Sports Made Simple’ animated shorts created for the Olympics. The first 6 were created for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games (running approximately 2 minutes each) and include ‘Gymnastics’, ‘Beach Volleyball’, ‘Mountain Biking’, ‘Breaking’, ‘Tennis’ and ‘4×100 Meter Relay’. The other 6 shorts were created for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games (running approximately 2-3 minutes apiece) and include ‘Snowboarding’, ‘Ice Hockey’, ‘Figure Skating’, ‘Bobsleigh’, ‘Speed Skating & Short Track’ and ‘Ski Jumping’.
