Synopsis:

Ten-year-old Aurora has an intriguing neighbor (Mads Mikkelsen) who kills real-life monsters — a hit man for hire. When Aurora needs help killing the monster she believes ate her family, she procures his services. Suspecting that her parents may have fallen victim to hit men gunning for him, Aurora’s neighbor guiltily takes the job. To protect Aurora, he’ll need to contend with an onslaught of assassins, a mysterious associate with killer heels (Sigourney Weaver), and accept that some monsters are real in this fantastical and wickedly inventive feature directorial debut from visionary creator Bryan Fuller.

‘Dust Bunny’ joins 10 year old Aurora who believes a dangerous monster is living underneath her bed that has now killed her parents. Determined to find a way to deal with the unexplainable beast, she tries to enlist the help of her odd neighbor who she saw take on and kill a deadly creature in the streets. Unsure of whether to take her seriously and believing it more likely that a team of hitmen killed her folks, the neighbor plays along and agrees to help the girl. As the two try to uncover the truth of the situation and differentiate between fantasy and reality, things get increasingly dangerous and violent and whether imagined or merely humans in deadly form, the newfound pair will have to fight through some form of monsters if they hope to escape the situation.

Written and directed by Bryan Fuller (TV’s Hannibal, American Gods) who does a spectacular job at the helm of ‘Dust Bunny’ which marks his feature length directorial debut, guiding along the tale with excitement, beauty and wonder. The film’s cast includes Mads Mikkelsen (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Sophie Sloan (TV’s Annika), Sheila Atim (The Woman King), David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer) and Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), with nearly all providing fully capable and solid performances in each of their roles that help this fantasy gem to become as marvelous and rewarding as it is.

‘Dust Bunny’ is a marvelous feature length debut from Bryan Fuller that reunites him with ‘Hannibal’ star Mads Mikkelsen for a wildly enjoyable, gorgeous and touching tale of two unlikely strangers that join forces and become friends while forced to fight for their lives against unknown, deadly forces. Utilizing the notable visual style that Fuller always seems to showcase and then crafting an emotional tale that’s rich with fantasy and wonder, not to mention some dazzling action sequences and a great deal of heart in addition. With a powerful story, capable direction and a powerful lineup of stars to help it along its way, ‘Dust Bunny’ is a spectacular fantasy tale that should have you glued to the screen from start to finish.

Rich with danger wonder and even a fair bit of humor around the edges, ‘Dust Bunny’ is quite different than your typical blockbuster and it’s never afraid to go its own way or take things in a direction you might or might not expect at any given time, while always keeping the viewer hooked around every turn and leaving you at least mildly uncertain of what is truly reality or the imagination of a young girl amid a painful and trying time. I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed the series that Bryan Fuller has created and they always feature a standout look that rarely accompanies television so it’s quite a treat to see him finally try his hand in cinema and ‘Dust Bunny’ is a rewarding debut and hopefully only the starting point to his filmmaking career which will be well worth keeping an eye on.

[4K Ultra HD Review] Dust Bunny; Now Available From Lionsgate 3

Overall, ‘Dust Bunny’ delivers a gorgeous, heartfelt and visually spectacular adventure that tows the line between fantasy and reality, while always serving up plenty of fun, humor and beauty throughout while taking viewers on an unexpected adventure that you won’t soon forget. It’s a beautiful film that’s as thrilling and visually stunning as it is moving and touching and perfectly guided along by talented director Bryan Fuller with a talented cast to repeatedly complement his work behind the camera. ‘Dust Bunny’ is very highly recommended for any dedicated fans of Bryan Fuller and Mads Mikkelsen, along with anyone that tends to enjoy an original and beautifully crafted fantasy tale that isn’t afraid to be something unique and different. If your interest is already piqued whatsoever then ‘Dust Bunny’ is well worth going out of your time to give a chance and should easily prove worthy of a rental at the very least.

VIDEO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Dust Bunny’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, presented in its original 3.00:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks great and offers a clean, sharp and richly detailed presentation from start to finish that never suffers from any sudden issues or troubles along the way. Curiously one of the widest aspect ratios I think I’ve ever come across, detail is solid on characters, fantasy elements and the visually popping action sequences, while the Dolby Vision HDR improves some of the colors on fireworks, clothing and more and it’s all splendidly complemented by deep, seemingly endless black levels. Overall, this is a fantastic Ultra High Definition presentation that looks terrific at every turn and should easily excite fans and newcomers alike.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentation. This multichannel soundtrack is far from underwhelming and it delivers a crisp, clean and immersive audio presentation throughout that enhances the viewing experience in the best way imaginable. It regularly utilizes all seven available channels in order to send music, action and nature effects, creature noises and plenty more whipping throughout the various speakers at every fitting opportunity, while never allowing any dialogue or other simultaneously occurring audio elements to become distorted or rendered problematic along the way. Overall, this is a wonderful Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that does its job well at every step and shouldn’t disappoint whatsoever.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
