‘The Naked Gun’ invites viewers into the new version of Police Squad and accompanies Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. as he follows in his father’s footsteps and never pulls his punches when fighting the criminals plaguing his city. But when a bank heist ends up tied to a random car crash death, Drebin soon ends up in over his head. As he teams up with a beautiful woman to solve the connecting cases it will take everything he has to get to the bottom of it and not end up ruining Police Squad and everything else in the process.

Directed by Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, The Watch) from a screenplay written by Dan Gregor (Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers) & Doug Mand (Dolittle) & Akiva Schaffer, Schaffer does a marvelous job at the helm of ‘The Naked Gun’ guiding along the goofy and wonderfully hilarious new take with style and fun around every turn. The film’s cast includes Liam Neeson (Marlowe), Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Paul Walter Hauser (Cruella), Danny Huston (The Crow 2024), CCH Pounder (Avatar: The Way of Water), Kevin Durand (Clown in a Cornfield) and more, with nearly all offering fitting and solid performances in each of their respective roles that contribute to the silly fun.

[Blu-Ray Review] The Naked Gun (2025); Available November 11, 2025 From Paramount 3

The new take on ‘The Naked Gun’ delivers a wildly hilarious, delightfully ridiculous and insanely enjoyable ride that’s as clever as it is silly and stupid in the best way possible. It benefits from its straight-faced approach that sees every ridiculous and stupid scenario within always handled as serious; even while every element around the moment screams anything but. Filled with countless clever gags, a plethora of literal humor and a great deal of goofy fun around every corner that only seems to get more over the top and tongue in cheek as it progresses; with the danger and seriousness of the story building while the hilarious approach never falters or shifts in the slightest and the end result is an absolutely marvelous comedy that will have you laughing nearly nonstop throughout its fittingly brief 85 minute runtime.

The new film is perfectly guided along by director Akiva Schaffer who is no stranger to helming some utterly hilarious and fun films such as the outstanding ‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping’ and featuring a splendidly silly performance by Liam Neeson that repeatedly hits comedic gold, as well as a stellar supporting cast of funny folks to back him up. ‘The Naked Gun’ is easily one of the funniest films in recent memory and it’s been a good minute since a film managed to elicit so many laughs and on such a consistent basis as this one does.

[Blu-Ray Review] The Naked Gun (2025); Available November 11, 2025 From Paramount 4

Overall, ‘The Naked Gun’ serves up one of the funniest films in years; a goofy, wonderfully ridiculous and consistently hilarious good time that keeps the laughs coming as quickly as the inane stupidity and over the top gags in order to bring fans a new take on the funny franchise that stands on its own while always repeatedly paying homage to the earlier series and films that it follows. With a wonderfully goofy performance by Liam Neeson and a solid supporting cast behind him, ‘The Naked Gun’ is a refreshing throwback to the inane comedy films of old and it manages to do a terrific job of nailing the tone and nary offering a dull moment along the way. It will probably work for some better than others, but if you enjoy this sort of silly, ridiculous comedy then I can’t recommend ‘The Naked Gun’ highly enough because it’s a nonstop laugh-fest that’s well worth going out of your way to give a whirl.
