Synopsis:

Beginning in Gotham City, Gorilla Grodd’s time-displacement machine malfunctions, sending a crazed cast of tyrannical villains back in time to terrorize medieval Japan. The most depraved is Lord Joker, who seeks total domination of the feudal states and the final elimination of the legendary Batman. With his arsenal of tech diminishing, can The Caped Crusader gain the advantage to keep Lord Joker and the others from rewriting history?

[4K Ultra HD Review] Batman Ninja; Now Available From DC – Warner Bros 2

‘Batman Ninja’ offers a new take on the legendary superhero as a confrontation between Batman and Gorilla Grodd sees Grodd’s time displacement machine send the hero and countless villains (as well as a few allies) into the long ago days of Feudal Japan. Without his usual array of clever tools, Batman must join forces with Catwoman in order to try and find a way to stop the terror unleashed by the Joker and other notable adversaries of the Dark Knight and hopefully utilize Grodd’s device to help them return home. Unfortunately they will have to undertake a number of massive battles along the way in their quest for a way home that could change everything.

‘Batman Ninja’ provides a fairly clever and unique take on Batman and numerous other characters both villain and ally, as well as plenty of expansive and entertaining fights and battles along the way, but unfortunately the film rarely manages to do anything to stand out aside from these two factors and the result is a fairly average and somewhat disappointing time as a whole, especially compared with the recently released sequel which is an absolute blast. [4K Ultra HD Review] Batman Ninja; Now Available From DC – Warner Bros 4

‘Batman Ninja’ comes home in stunning 4K Ultra HD for the first time courtesy of Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. The new 4K release features a pretty stellar new Ultra High Definition presentation of the film featuring Dolby Vision and HDR-10 that has the animated adventure looking better than ever before. The film’s notable new video presentation is nicely balanced by 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks for the English and Japanese language versions.

The good news is that this release upgrades the Japanese audio option to lossless 5.1 DTS-HD MA this time around instead of the lossy Dolby Digital soundtrack featured on the Blu-ray. The bad news is that the translation subtitles that accompanied the Japanese soundtrack are not present on this release and the only sub option is the English subtitles accompanying the English language track. While these subs will translate the general idea it does falter in other places like including a great deal of different dialogue as well as additional dialogue that is not present in the Japanese version such as the narration from Catwoman which means there will be moments with no spoken Japanese dialogue that have irrelevant subtitles accompanying them; something that will have many fans understandably disappointed. The release includes the same few extras offered on the Blu-ray release as well. If you’re a fan of the film and would love to own it in 4K with Dolby Vision and don’t mind the missing translation subtitles, then this one shouldn’t disappoint.

VIDEO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Batman Ninja’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10 presented in its original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks pretty spectacular as a whole and delivers a generally clean, sharp and beautifully colored presentation from start to finish that does see some banding and crush visible at times but it’s hard to say whether that’s intentional for the style or not. Detail is sharp and gorgeous on character specifics, backgrounds and vehicles, with the Dolby Vision HDR improving upon and enhancing many colors and tidbits along the way. Overall, this is a very nice Ultra High Definition presentation that holds up well and should excite fans of the film.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack for both the English and Japanese language versions of the film. While it’s a treat to see the Japanese soundtrack included in DTS-HD this time around, the release sadly does not include the proper translation subtitles and instead only offers the English accompanying English subtitles with altered and additional text for dialogue not included in that version. This multichannel soundtrack sounds quite good for both language options though regardless and delivers a clean, crisp and quite aggressive audio presentation throughout. It repeatedly utilizes all five available channels in order to send a flurry of action, time travel and vehicle effects, along with a whole lot more consistently whipping throughout the various speakers, while never negatively impacting any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously. Overall, this is a great 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack for both language options, although the absence of the proper accompanying subtitles for the Japanese track will surely disappoint many fans.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
