‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ joins college student Stefani who has been suffering from the same terrifying dream every night for months that sees the grandmother she never knew and a massive crowd of folks in the late 1960’s die horrific deaths while attending the grand opening of a tower restaurant. Unable to move on without answers, Stefani eventually tracks down her grandmother only to discover that she had saved numerous people years prior thanks to a premonition of the event, causing death to track down and eliminate the bloodlines of every survivor over the years. Now Stefani, her brother and her relatives will have to confront the reality of the situation before they all become the next to go.

Directed by Adam Stein & Zach Lipovsky (Freaks 2018, TV’s Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock) from a screenplay written by Guy Busick (Abigail) & Lori Evans Taylor (Cellar Door), from a story by Jon Watts and Busick and Taylor, Stein & Lipovsky do a fantastic job at the helm of ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ guiding along the fun and gnarly new ride and repeatedly honoring the tone and style of its predecessors. The film’s cast includes Kaitlyn Santa Juana (The Friendship Game), Teo Briones (TV’s Chucky), Richard Harmon (TV’s The Night Agent), Owen Patrick Joyner (TV’s Knight Squad), Anna Lore (TV’s Gotham Knights), Brec Bassinger (TV’s Stargirl) and Tony Todd (Candyman), with nearly all offering solid or at least fitting performances in their respective roles.

‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ is a wild, brutally graphic and incredibly entertaining new installment in the beloved franchise that manages to stay faithful to the first five films in the series while simultaneously offering a new, somewhat unique twist to the formula that helps to build a middle ground that should leave diehard fans of the series thrilled, while also never causing any confusion for those that aren’t familiar with any or all of the previous entries. With plenty of unique, gnarly and gory deaths, while contributing a clever new twist on the general story which all combines into a fresh yet still familiar trip that’s definitely worth taking.

The new twist introduced this time around focusing on the elimination of entire bloodlines adds a breath of fresh air to the series, while also resulting in a surprising amount of notable twists and turns that take various familiar aspects and courses and then turns them around in clever ways, causing me to be pleasantly surprised more than once throughout its duration. It also keeps you guessing more than many previous entries as the order and different minor aspects see some shuffling and alterations that are always done in a manner that doesn’t disrespect the franchise as a whole and should have even longtime fans staring to question what they expect as things progress. One of the biggest rewards and bittersweet elements is the final appearance of Tony Todd who reprises his iconic role from the first, second and fifth installments and is granted a satisfying and heartfelt sendoff that should have fans extremely satisfied.

Overall, ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ is a fun, thrilling and wildly gory new chapter in the horror franchise that takes things in a surprising yet no less fitting direction and caters to both longtime fans and newcomers in the process; serving up one of the best sequels in the series to date and surely one of the most graphic in addition. ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ is highly recommended for any genre fans that appreciate a wild, twisty ride with plenty of brutal deaths and some clever twists and turns along the way, while dedicated fans of the franchise in particular definitely won’t want to miss out on this stellar sequel that stays true to the previous films while providing a perfectly adequate standalone style that repeatedly delivers nods to the previous entries while keeping things welcoming for those that aren’t overly familiar with the series and its five previous entries.
