The classic Hanna-Barbera animated series ‘Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles’ invites viewers to join two of the more curious crime-fighting teams of the era and showcases the heroic exploits of two different groups. The first consists of the boy genius Buzz Conroy and his trusty robot helper Frankenstein Jr. as they take on various villains with their combination of brain power and metallic muscle. The second is the heroic team of musicians dubbed The Impossibles who dazzle fans with their musical talents and then transform into the super powered Impossibles trio of Multi Man, Coil Man and Fluid Man when their assistance is needed to save the day.

‘Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles’ ran for a total of 18 episodes, first debuting in September of 1966 and concluding its original run in January of 1967. The animated series hailed from the Hanna-Barbera team and featured three segments in each thirty minute episode which included the ‘Frankenstein Jr.’ segments in the center of each episode, sandwiched between two segments of ‘The Impossibles’ offering brief and simplistic storylines that kept the fun and heroic excitement coming fast and sweet, while also featuring plenty of unique villains for each group of heroes to combat and more often than not with the opening and ending of the segments remaining similar throughout; with a few minor changes here and there naturally.

It follows a simple yet rewarding and massively enjoyable formula that can become somewhat repetitive when binge watching the series in its entirety but I can imagine it also would have worked rather well when it comes to weekly broadcasts, especially in a time without the convenience of recording options; conveniently allowing viewers to jump in on any episode and never feel the slightest bit lost. Like many cartoons of the era, there is certainly some content within that is somewhat dated and doesn’t work quite as well in today’s environment, but the fun and light-hearted excitement still remains and should have no trouble keeping fans of similar toons that have never had the chance to check this one out fully engaged and amused.
