Available in striking 4K for the first time, Kill Bill Volume 2 is the must-see movie event from writer and director Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction), that completes the action-packed quest for revenge begun by The Bride (Uma Thurman) in Kill Bill Volume 1! Having already crossed two names from her Death List, The Bride is back with a vengeance and taking aim at Budd (Michael Madsen) and Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah), the only survivors from the squad of assassins who betrayed her four years earlier. It’s all leading up to the ultimate confrontation with Bill (David Carradine), The Bride’s former master and the man who ordered her execution! ‘Kill Bill Vol. 2’ rejoins The Bride on her quest for vengeance. Now with two names checked off of her kill list, she heads for the final members of the Deadly Vipers responsible for her situation, as well as Bill, the true ringleader and the one she is most intent to see eradicated. But the end of her quest won’t be any easier than it started as she sets out in search of Bill’s brother and the deadly one-eyed blonde she loathes more than most. But once again, nothing is likely to stop her from completing her journey to revenge other than death, and they already tried and failed at that once.

‘Kill Bill Vol. 2’ is once again written and directed by Quentin Tarantino who does a marvelous job guiding it along once more, delivering a very different and more emotional film this time around that still has plenty of notable action and insanity to serve up throughout. The second installment’s cast includes Uma Thurman and David Carradine, along with Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu, Michael Parks and more, with each offering solid and fitting performances in their respective roles that benefit the tale.

‘Kill Bill Vol. 2’ is a marvelous continuation of Tarantino’s blood-soaked revenge tale that landed in American theaters in April of 2004, roughly six months after the first Volume made its theatrical debut. The second volume in Quentin Tarantino’s extravagant revenge story takes a notably different approach and tone this time around, primarily in the way that it allows more breathing room for the various answers viewers had been awaiting, in addition to allowing adequate time to properly wrap up the entire story. Volume 2 is still a great ride and it does a tremendous job of contributing something different throughout, while still remaining true to the story and chain of events it follows from the first volume which all forms into a fantastic conclusion that may not be as jam-packed with blood-gushing violence and swordplay but does a more than satisfying job of ending the tale on a memorable note.

Volume 2 also contributes some more insight into the characters while exploring various other areas of The Bride’s tale such as her brutal training with Pai Mei and visiting aspects of her life and connection to Bill prior to the horrific events that set her quest for revenge in motion; even opening with a black and white scene that offers a look at the chapel massacre itself. All in all it’s another wonderful film from Tarantino that finds unique and clever ways to offer something new, without ever disregarding or abandoning what came prior and providing a great conclusion to this epic tale of vengeance. I still have fond memories of watching both volumes in theaters for the first time, yet neither has become the slightest bit lackluster or dull amid numerous viewings over the years either.

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Kill Bill Vol. 2’ comes home on 4K Ultra HD for the first time courtesy of Lionsgate and released simultaneously with Tarantino’s ‘Jackie Brown’ (you can read my review of that release HERE) and ‘Kill Bill Vol. 1’ (you can also read that review HERE). The release features another pretty nice overall Ultra High Definition presentation of the film with Dolby Vision and HDR-10 which is once again paired with a fully capable and enjoyable 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack and a few fun previously released extras in addition. As with the other 4K debuts, ‘Kill Bill Vol. 2’ also includes a Blu-ray copy of the film and a Digital code insert and any fans that are highly considering a purchase are encouraged to pick up a copy whenever convenient and should not be disappointed with the release, even if it once again may not quite reach the level of the ‘Jackie Brown’ presentation in 4K.

VIDEO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Kill Bill Vol. 2’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, presented in its original 2.40:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks quite nice as a whole and delivers a sharp, smooth and well detailed presentation from start to finish that’s largely similar to that featured on Volume 1, although with less noticeable degradation of clarity and detail in fast moving moments (or perhaps just because there are fewer of those moments in this volume) but still offers a filmic appearance with noticeable grain as well as improved detail and clarity that looks great on multiple occasions throughout and is nicely boosted by the Dolby Vision HDR which offers some enhanced and more lifelike coloring on various elements and tidbits along the way; with capable and deep black levels to further complement it all. Overall, this is a generally very nice Ultra High Definition presentation that once again isn’t utterly flawless but should largely please most fans.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. This multichannel soundtrack offers a crisp, clean and frequently hard hitting audio presentation throughout that makes a splendid complement to the conclusion of the revenge tale. It takes advantage of all five available channels consistently throughout in order to send music, action and nature effects, plus quite a bit more throughout the various speakers whenever fitting, while always making certain that any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously remain clean and fully audible at every turn. Overall, this is a very nice 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack that holds up well throughout and should not disappoint.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Kill Bill Vol. 2’ offers a few nice previously released extras which can be found on both the 4K and BD discs. Included is the behind the scenes Featurette ‘The Making of Kill Bill Vol. 2’ (running approximately 26 minutes in length), along with the ‘”Damoe” Deleted Scene’ featuring Michael Jai White’s brief role, plus the ‘“Chingon” Musical Performance’ from the film’s premiere.
