Synopsis:

When army commando Amrit (Lakshya) finds out his true love Tulika (Tanya Maniktala) is engaged against her will, he boards a New Delhi-bound train in a daring quest to derail the arranged marriage. But when a gang of knife-wielding thieves led by the ruthless Fani (Raghav Juyal) begin to terrorize innocent passengers on his train, Amrit takes them on himself in a death-defying kill-spree to save those around him — turning what should have been a typical commute into an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride.

‘Kill’ tells the story of army commando Amrit who after concluding a mission is informed that the love of his life is set to be engaged as part of an arranged marriage. Unwilling to give up on love Amrit heads to the engagement celebration in an attempt to thwart the marriage. Boarding a train thereafter, Amrit and his army friend settle in for a pleasant trip only to soon realize that the train has been hijacked by a deadly group of bandits intent on robbing it or making a big score one way or another. Unable to let them wreak havoc on the various innocents aboard, Amrit takes it upon himself to fight back against the intruders, but the journey will be fraught with more danger and trouble than he could have ever anticipated.

Written and directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat (Hurdang) and with dialogue by Ayesha Syed, Bhat does a marvelous job at the helm of ‘Kill’ guiding along the thrilling action and excitement with style, heart and a fittingly fast-paced tone. The film’s cast includes Lakshya (Haseena), Tanya Maniktala (TV’s Flames), and Raghav Juyal (Yudhra) along with more and the majority each offer fitting and generally solid performances for the most part in their respective roles.

‘Kill’ is absolutely outstanding and serves up a thrilling, wildly action-packed ride that utilizes a fitting fast-paced style and keeps the violent excitement coming at full speed once it gets going and rarely offers the viewer a chance to catch their breath once things really pick up. It’s a beautifully crafted tale that puts great care into the action sequences which make it hard not to have a grin plastered on your face for the majority of the feature, while also utilizing some remarkable sets that make the train look impressively realistic within.

Not only does ‘Kill’ offer a thrilling and insanely entertaining time but it’s not solely a mindless action movie either, taking some time to build these characters and therefore allowing the viewer to truly care about what happens to each of them before sending them into a chaotic situation where no one is entirely safe. Once it starts to really move at a breakneck speed it then does something fairly surprising, it actually takes things in a slightly different direction which only leads to everything becoming significantly more brutally violent and hectic.

Even after hearing quite a few promising things about ‘Kill’ I have to admit that I was still thoroughly impressed and it only managed to exceed the expectations I had going in. It didn’t take terribly long to mark its place as one of the best films of the year, not to mention one of the better action movies in several. If you enjoy a well-crafted and gorgeously choreographed action film along the lines of such gems as The Raid films, then ‘Kill’ should be right up your alley and is absolutely not to be missed.

VIDEO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Kill’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation presented in its original 2.39:1 Aspect Ratio, although without any form of HDR offered on the release. The video presentation looks great as a whole and provides a clean, sharp and nicely detailed presentation from start to finish that holds up well at every turn and never suffers from any noticeable issues or faults along the way. Detail is marvelous on everything from character faces, blood and the specifics of the various train cars visited throughout. Perhaps the only disappointing element of this presentation is the curious absence of any sort of HDR addition which means there is little to no discernible differences in coloring and palette, although it still looks quite magnificent even so. Overall, this is a solid Ultra High Definition presentation that should have fans and newcomers very pleased.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack with the original Hindi audio and forced English subtitles. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentation. This multichannel soundtrack is a blast in its own right and it repeatedly complements the onscreen excitement and thrills, delivering a clean, crisp and hard hitting audio presentation throughout. It consistently takes advantage of all seven available channels in order to send music, action effects and crowd chatter, along with quite a bit more zipping throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate, while never conflicting with or negatively impacting any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously. Overall, this is a stellar Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that impresses from start to finish and should easily thrill viewers.
