Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman sneak into an R-rated movie to see their favorite Canadian superstars. When their parents find out, they declare war on Canada. Now the boys have to stand up to their parents, stop World War III, and get Satan back to Hell before he destroys the world.  It’s all part of a young boy’s life in this quiet little mountain town.

[4K Ultra HD Review] South Park: Bigger, Longer And Uncut; Available June 25, 2024 From Paramount 1

‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’ joins Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny as the boys ignore their parents and sneak into the vulgar, R-Rated ‘Terrance and Phillip’ movie which quickly leads to the boys spouting a plethora of curse words. As the rest of the town and other children quickly find their way into the film it causes an uproar as Kyle’s mom blames the foul-talking behavior on Canada and what starts as a group of local protestors soon sparks a war between Canada and the US. But what none of them realize is that if it goes the way most expect, it could lead to Satan and his new lover Saddam Hussein rising from hell to take over the world.

The wildly vulgar and offensive big screen animated ‘South Park’ movie was directed by Trey Parker and written by Trey Parker & Matt Stone and Pam Brady. Parker does a great job at the helm of ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’ guiding along the profane and offensive fun while going bigger in every logical way. The film’s voice cast features Trey Parker and Matt Stone along with Mary Kay Bergman and Isaac Hayes plus more including numerous notable cameo voice appearances throughout.

‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’ was first unleashed upon moviegoers in the summer of 1999 and took fans of the series for a bigger, far more offensive and profanity-packed ride with your favorite residents of the quiet mountain town. I still remember catching this one in theaters opening weekend (I was old enough to get in though so I didn’t have to buy a ticket to ‘Wild Wild West’ myself) and still remember being slightly shocked even as an adult at just how far they took the big screen outing while still managing to keep things fresh, clever and hilarious every step of the way.

As someone who doesn’t always prefer musicals as my genre of choice, Parker and Stone remain one team that seem to make musicals that are right up my alley and the ‘South Park’ movie is probably still one of my favorites to this day and one rare musical that I can’t help but sing-along to whenever I watch it. It seems safe to assume that most fans of ‘South Park’ have probably already seen this movie a handful of times at the very least, but if you’re one of the few fans of the series that still hasn’t had the pleasure it’s probably time to rectify that because even twenty-five years after its debut, ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’ still manages to deliver an insanely enjoyable time that never manages to get old no matter how many times I revisit it over the years.

[4K Ultra HD Review] South Park: Bigger, Longer And Uncut; Available June 25, 2024 From Paramount 2

In celebration of the film’s 25th Anniversary, Paramount Home Entertainment brings ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’ home on 4K Ultra HD for the first time ever. The new release features the film in full Ultra High Definition with Dolby Vision and HDR-10 looking better than it ever has before. The solid new UHD video presentation is complemented by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack which seems to be similar to the previous Blu-ray release’s audio presentation but still holds up capably and shouldn’t disappoint. While the theatrical version of the film is only featured in 4K, the release arrives with a Blu-ray disc that offers some additional goodies including the new ‘Sing-A-Long Version’ of the film, along with an Audio Commentary and a few other tidbits. For dedicated fans of the ‘South Park’ movie that are fully 4K capable and already considering a purchase, the release is definitely recommended.

VIDEO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, presented in its original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks great altogether and provides a sharp, clean and beautifully colored presentation from start to finish that brings the film home looking better than ever. Detail is sharp and stellar throughout and noticeable on character faces, as well as the various animated landscapes and interiors which all shine. The Dolby Vision HDR also nicely complements much of the animation by contributing some more vivid, lifelike and solid colors that are consistently noticeable throughout on everything from clothing to the snow-capped mountain landscapes. Overall, this is a pretty fantastic Ultra High Definition video presentation that holds up well at nearly every turn and should have fans excited.

AUDIO:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. This multichannel soundtrack seems to be almost identical to the soundtrack included on the film’s previous Blu-ray release but it still holds up rather competently and offers a clean, crisp and often immersive audio presentation throughout. It utilizes all five available channels in order to send the musical numbers along with some action and nature effects, plus more zipping throughout the various speakers whenever fitting, while never causing any dialogue or other audio elements to become negatively affected or rendered inaudible in the process. Overall, this is a solid 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack that does its job well and shouldn’t disappoint.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut’ features a few fun extras all of which can be found on the included Blu-ray disc. Included on the release is the ‘Sing-A-Long Version’ of the film, in addition to an ‘Audio Commentary with Matt Stone and Trey Parker’ and the ‘“What Would Brian Boitano Do?” Music Video’ (running approximately 3 minutes in length). Also included are ‘3 Trailers’ (running approximately 1-2 minutes each) for the film.
