THE MOVIE – REVIEW:

‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 2’ rejoins the collected heroes as the ongoing threat to their worlds only increases and becomes more unpredictable. Utilizing the devices that Barry/The Flash helped to develop which have kept the waves at bay, the enemy soon unleashes a massive horde of shadow demons to combat the heroes throughout the multiverse. Dangerous, nearly indestructible and with no hesitation, the shadowy soldiers quickly prove to be nearly too much even for the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and the other heroes, but a dangerous chain of events involving hidden secrets between Supergirl and the Monitor raise more cause for alarm.

The second installment in this animated event trilogy is once again directed by Jeff Wamester from a script written by Jim Krieg and Wamester does a nice job altogether back at the helm for ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two’ smoothly guiding along the intensity and action. The voice cast of the new film includes Jensen Ackles, Darren Criss, Meg Donnelly, Stana Katic, Jonathan Adams, Gideon Adlon, Geoffrey Arend, Troy Baker, Zach Callison, Keith Ferguson, Will Friedle, Jennifer Hale, Aldis Hodge and Jimmi Simpson along with more, with each offering altogether capable and fitting voice performances in their respective roles throughout.

‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two’ continues the massive animated DC event trilogy and in many ways picks up the pace (at least in the second half of the film) as things become increasingly bleak and dangerous for our heroes against the unrelenting forces trying to eradicate the multiverse. It starts off with a sequence involving Batman and various other Bat-family heroes before exploring an initially somewhat confusing collection of backstories that jumps back in time to earlier films in the Tomorrow-Verse series of animated films and highlights some previous events that occurred between The Monitor and Supergirl which we were previously unaware of and that seem to be potentially crucial to the events moving forward. It shifts between these events while also showcasing a story told by Charles Halstead chronicling his life and attempts at domination throughout the multiverse.

The film eventually settles back into the current timeframe that the first installment left off on dives right into the current chaotic situation as our various heroes fight throughout the numerous worlds in an attempt to prevent the anti-matter waves from eradicating more planets and the action rarely halts going forward as our collection of heroes is forced to take on one dangerous threat after another while the odds become more concerning at an alarming pace. Part Two doesn’t quite manage to deliver a film that matches the emotional and touching chain of events that unfolded in its predecessor and takes its time before getting back into the ongoing tale, but as a whole it still serves up a thrilling and consistently action-packed ride that fans should largely enjoy, especially with the plethora of notable characters featured within (and even more popping up for brief cameos and glimpses) and if you enjoyed the first film whatsoever then you definitely won’t want to miss out on this follow-up.

OVERALL:

‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two’ serves up another exciting and superhero-packed chapter in the DC Animated Movie trilogy that sees the threat to the multiverse become more dire as our heroes fight against a seemingly unstoppable force intent on eradicating them all. It offers  a more action-packed and fast-paced ride this time around although with far less heart and emotion than the first film but still manages to hold the viewers’ attention with no trouble, at least once you get past the somewhat confusing and jumbled first half or so. ‘Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two’ is definitely recommended, especially for diehard DC fans who are sure to appreciate a lot of this new installment even if might change up a few things or start off on a somewhat confusing note. If you were a fan of the first film then you definitely won’t want to skip this second installment and it should certainly be worth a watch whenever you have the chance.
