Synopsis:
It’s season seven, and the possibilities are endless: what’s up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let’s find out! There’s probably less piss than last season. “Rick and Morty,” 100 years! Or at least until season 10!
Please Note: Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Post. The opinions I share are my own.
THE SEASON – REVIEW:
‘Rick and Morty’ are back in Season 7 with a whole new collection of adventures for the duo. This time around they dive deeper into Rick’s unfortunate history as he comes closer than ever to confronting the version of himself responsible for taking his wife years prior, while the family gets an unsettling surprise when Morty spoils the secret behind Rick’s spaghetti night, and when Rick and Jerry get mixed up internally it leads to a whole new mess. At the same time Rick must deal with a new attack by his ex, the dangerous hive mind and a violent chain of events that occur when the pope gains access to a perfect killing machine to take out the church’s enemies and a whole lot more chaos and over the top insanity that sees the family once again at odds over one scenario or another. So settle in, get comfortable and prepare yourself for ten new hilariously twisted episodes of your favorite animated series.
Season 7 of ‘Rick and Morty’ joins our favorite grandfather and grandson duo as they once again find themselves tackling dangerous missions, death and plenty of other twisted situations that as usual only lead to far more trouble and disgustingly offensive fun, although with less piss this season and far more spaghetti. The seventh season also sees some massive changes to the series including the replacement of co-creator and Rick and Morty voice actor Justin Roiland following some troubling accusations and legal issues and therefore marks the first season of the series to feature new voice actors portraying the two titular characters, with Ian Cardoni taking over as the voice of Rick and Harry Belden as Morty respectively. While diehard fans will undoubtedly be able to tell the difference, you have to commend the show for finding impressively accurate and fitting new stars to take over that keep both characters sounding far closer to what we’re familiar with than you might imagine and after a minute of adapting to the slight difference, the season delivers another twisted, nasty and hilarious batch of episodes that fans should have a tremendous amount of fun with.
If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to catch up on the latest season of ‘Rick and Morty’ or if you were hesitant due to the changes implemented this season, I would strongly encourage you to give it a chance nonetheless because you might just be pleasantly surprised by how little of a difference it makes, not to mention the fact that the series appears to have suffered very little by the alterations and is still as twisted and funny as ever, not to mention featuring another star-studded collection of guest stars contributing their voices this time around including Hugh Jackman, Ice-T and many more. For those who might not want to purchase a copy of the release if hesitant, the entire seventh season is also currently available to stream on Max for subscribers as of the time of this writing.
OVERALL:
Season 7 of ‘Rick and Morty’ serves up another wild, offensive and hilarious batch of episodes that sees the pair finally make some progress in their attempts to track down and enact revenge on the version of Rick responsible for our Rick’s heartache and bitter outlook on life, along with a spaghetti debacle like you’ve never seen and plenty of other hilariously twisted misadventures this time around.
