The expected purge of the previous shows on The CW continues under the new ownership as the network has now cancelled ‘The Winchesters’ after 1 Season and ‘Kung Fu’ after 3 seasons.
The two new cancellations follow The CW’s renewal of ‘Walker’ for Season 4 and cancellation of ‘Walker: Independence’ earlier this week. Following the acquisition of The CW by a new team, the network has planned to largely revamp the network in an effort to cut costs which means that the majority of their current programming won’t be returning. ‘The Winchesters’ and ‘Kung Fu’ now mark the latest victims of the network moving forward.
‘The Winchesters’ which serves a prequel series to the long-running ‘Supernatural’ debuted this season on the network and concluded its thirteen episode freshman season on March 7, 2023. A report by Deadline notes that with knowledge that the cancellation was likely coming, Warner Bros. Television is aggressively shopping the prequel series to other outlets in a hope of finding it a new home.
‘The Winchesters’ stars Meg Donnelly, Drake Rodger, Jonathan ”JoJo” Fleites, Nida Khurshid, Demetria McKinney, Bianca Kajlich, and Jensen Ackles.
‘The Winchesters’ Synopsis: Before Sam and Dean, there were their parents’ John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester, THE WINCHESTERS is the epic, untold love story of how John Winchester met Mary Campbell and put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.
‘Kung Fu’ which concluded its third season on March 8, 2023 has also now been cancelled by the network and the season 3 finale will now additionally serve as the series finale. The series was also reportedly shopped around in the hope of finding a new home but word is that they were unable to secure one.
‘Kung Fu’ stars Olivia Liang, Kheng Hua Tan, Shannon Dang, Jon Prasida, Eddie Liu, Gavin Stenhouse, Vanessa Kai, Yvonne Chapman, Tony Chung, JB Tadena, and Tzi Ma.
‘Kung Fu’ Synopsis: A quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese American woman, Nicky Shen (Olivia Liang), to drop out of college and go on a life changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to San Francisco, she finds her hometown is overrun with crime and corruption. Nicky will rely on her family and friends, as well as her martial arts skills and Shaolin values, to protect her community and bring the criminals to justice.
