‘Walker’ Renewed For Season 4 & ‘Walker: Independence’ Cancelled By The CW

The network has revealed that ‘Walker’ has been renewed for a shortened Season 4, while the spin-off/prequel series ‘Walker: Independence’ has been cancelled after one season.

News on the fate of both series mark the first approaching the fall season schedule to come from the new team behind the CW and with a new approach being taken for the network it is expected that many ongoing shows won’t be returning.

Fortunately, for fans of ‘Walker’ starring Jared Padalecki the main series has been renewed for Season 4, although word is that the initial fourth season pickup is for 13 episodes. ‘Walker’ is currently airing its third season on The CW with the Season 3 finale set to air on May 11, 2023.

CW Series synopsis: ‘Walker‘, reimagining of the long-running series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” stars Jared Padalecki (“Supernatural”) as Cordell Walker, a widower and father of two with his own moral code, who returns home to Austin, TX, after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home.

Unfortunately for fans of the prequel/spinoff series that debuted this year, ‘Walker: Independence’ starring Katherine McNamara won’t be returning and has now been cancelled after one season. The season 1 finale which aired in March will now additionally serve as the series finale.

CW Series Synopsis: Set in the late 1800s, an origin story of The CW’s current hit series “Walker,” WALKER INDEPENDENCE follows Abby Walker (Katherine McNamara, “Arrow”), an affluent and tough-minded Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. Abby soon finds herself precariously aligned with Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Barr, “Walker), a slippery rogue with a heart of gold, as they both seek to uncover the truth about the identity of Abby’s husband’s killer, and vow to save Independence – a frontier boomtown where nothing is what it seems.

  1. Happy that Walker has a 4th season.
    BIG MISTAKE not renewing Walker Independence.
    Independence has a great diverse ensemble cast, talented actors ( that we have come to know and love) beautiful cinematography, a musical score that adds to each story, and storylines of the expansion of the American west.
    Hopefully another network will see that Independence is a amazing western is that is worthy of a second season.
