Synopsis:
Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm features everyone’s favorite rascals, the Aqua Teens: the brainy Frylock, the mouthy Master Shake, the loveable Meatwad, and everyone’s favorite perverted neighbor, Carl, as they split up then get back together to fight everyone’s favorite corporate overlord, Amazin, led by everyone’s favorite tech mogul, Neil (voiced by everyone’s favorite Peter Serafinowicz) and his trusty scientist sidekick, Elmer (Paul Walter Hauser, who is everyone’s favorite).
Please Note: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray I reviewed in this Post. The opinions I share are my own.
Your favorite living, talking food items Master Shake, Frylock and Meatwad return in ‘Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm’ which finds the trio separated after a falling out and each member going their own way. As their old neighbor Carl tries to find a way to financially benefit from their old house, he is soon visited by each member returning home. But when Frylock ends up assisting the mad ruler of the corporate powerhouse Amazin, it leads to a whole new mess of trouble that only these three old friends reuniting may be able to put a stop to (maybe with a little help from Carl).
Written and directed by series creators Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis (Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters) who do a great job at the helm of ‘Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm’ guiding along the goofy, offensive and over the top fun with ease. The film’s voice cast includes Carey Means (TV’s The Brak Show), Dana Snyder (TV’s Squidbillies), Dave Willis (TV’s Archer), Peter Serafinowicz (TV’s Miracle Workers), Paul Walter Hauser (TV’s Black Bird), Natasha Rothwell (TV’s Insecure), Robert Smigel (TV’s Bob’s Burgers) and Tim Robinson (Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers 2022) along with more who each do their own part contributing to the fun and humor throughout.
‘Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm’ is a delightfully ridiculous and over the top new animated feature that reunites us with our favorite heroic (sort of, but not really) and lovable (but also infuriating) team of living fast food items as they face their biggest (and stupidest) challenge yet. ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ has always proved itself to be an incredibly clever approach to an idiotic idea (and I mean that in the most loving way possible) that somehow just works better than anyone could have expected. Always embracing its silly nature and taking it to some shockingly vulgar, violent and offensive places and this new animated film is certainly no exception. Continuing the story of the Aqua Teen trio and having some fun with modern technology, corporate giants and even revamping some of the characters and elements of the show within.
As should be expected for a 75 minute animated feature, ‘Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm’ is a far more expansive outing than most episodes of the series and this second ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ movie does not disappoint, offering up everything the fans love in a new film that also features some surprisingly gorgeous animation; truly a night and day difference from the more basic animation style that the show began with in its early days. The new film also features some appearances by ATHF fan favorite guest stars such as Marcula and the Mooninites (who naturally take over the film’s presentation to toy with us on multiple occasions throughout) along with more. So get ready for a wildly enjoyable, offensive and bloody new Aqua Teen adventure that fans won’t even want to consider missing out on. Aqua Teen Forever!
Overall, ‘Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm’ is another hilariously over the top, weird and darkly fun outing with the trio that brings more than enough of their trademark ridiculousness and off-beat humor to keep fans easily engaged and amused throughout its duration. ‘Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm’ is definitely recommended for fans of the series. Those who aren’t fans of the series probably won’t be too interested in this one as it’s not a series that will appeal to everyone, but if you enjoy the hilarious and vulgar antics of the Aqua Teen trio then you’re almost guaranteed to find plenty to love about this ridiculously enjoyable new adventure. So gather up your own group and get ready for a splendidly hilarious and over the new top new feature length outing with Master Shake, Frylock, Meatwad and of course everyone’s favorite (un)lovable neighbor Carl.
VIDEO:
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation presented in its original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks pretty good as a whole and offers a clean, smooth and vibrantly colored presentation from start to finish with no unexpected issues or problems plaguing it along the way. All of the animated details look rather clean and sharp down to the backgrounds and character details. In a less common move for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, this 4K Ultra HD release is absent of any HDR addition, but the added resolution and detail still works well to make this at least a notable improvement over the Blu-ray presentation. Overall, this is a solid Ultra High Definition video presentation that does its job competently and should please the fans looking forward to this one.
AUDIO:
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. This multichannel soundtrack makes a nice complement to the onscreen fun and ridiculousness and delivers a clean, crisp and fairly active audio presentation throughout. It utilizes all five available channels quite regularly in order to send some spacecraft and cars whipping throughout the various speakers, along with action effects and other various tidbits at every fitting opportunity, while never resulting in any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously becoming distorted or rendered inaudible in the process. Overall, this is a quite decent 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtrack that contributes some extra fun to the viewing experience and shouldn’t disappoint.
