Some disappointing news today for fans of the sci-fi series ‘Westworld’ from Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy as HBO has now officially cancelled the series after four seasons.
The cancellation of ‘Westworld’ was announced Friday afternoon, just under three months after the fourth season concluded its run on August 14. Creators Nolan and Joy had spoken out as recently as last month expressing their hope for a fifth and final season renewal which talks were under way for, but it looks like fans of the series won’t be able to see the intended ending for the series after all.
Multiple outlets have additionally confirmed the cancellation which came with a statement from HBO commenting “Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a mind-bending odyssey, raising the bar at every step. We are tremendously grateful to them, along with their immensely talented cast, producers and crew, and all of our partners at Kilter Films, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television. It’s been a thrill to join them on this journey.”
Nolan and Joy’s Kilter Films also commented on the news stating “Making Westworld has been one of the highlights of our careers. We are deeply grateful to our extraordinary cast and crew for creating these indelible characters and brilliant worlds. We’ve been privileged to tell these stories about the future of consciousness – both human and beyond – in the brief window of time before our AI overlords forbid us from doing so.”
