[Blu-Ray Review] ‘Naomi: The Complete Series’; Now Available From DC – Warner Bros 1

Based on the DC comics series, ‘Naomi’ tells the story of a teenage high school student whose uneventful life filled with friends, loving parents and running her own massively popular Superman fan site is uprooted after a strange event in her small town causes her to go hunting for answers. But what she didn’t expect was to discover a truth about herself that she was entirely unaware of. As she begins to decipher the truth of her past and supposed destiny while trying to realize and control her newfound talents, she’s only cracked the surface of what is possible, but that destiny may not be willing to wait for her to catch up.

[Blu-Ray Review] ‘Naomi: The Complete Series’; Now Available From DC – Warner Bros 2

‘Naomi’ is a refreshingly enjoyable surprise of a series that has a lot to offer and ended up pulling me in far more easily than expected. Populated with intriguing characters and a story that has plenty of surprises to keep you guessing throughout its run, plus a somewhat different style than many of the DC shows we’re familiar with that helps to keep it feeling both familiar and unique in its own right. Due to the cancellation after only a single season though, this 13 episode run sadly provides only a glimpse of what might have been if it had been continued. If you’re interested in the series you may still want to give it a shot, but do be prepared for a lot of unresolved elements and storylines when it’s over.

In addition to the various unexpected twists and revelations it throws at us throughout and some fairly solid characters we quickly find ourselves caring about, the cast of ‘Naomi’ does a pretty solid job keeping things moving along and maintaining our interest quite easily after a few episodes of getting the setting, characters and everything else adequately set up. Kaci Walfall delivers a fitting and surprisingly emotional portrayal of our lead Naomi and the supporting cast which includes Cranston Johnson, Alexander Wraith, Mary-Charles Jones, Mouzam Makkar, Daniel Puig, Camila Moreno, Will Meyers, Aidan Gemme, and Barry Watson each hold their own pretty well for the most part in their respective roles and along with those behind the scenes help the series to work pretty smoothly most of the time.

[Blu-Ray Review] ‘Naomi: The Complete Series’; Now Available From DC – Warner Bros 3

Overall, ‘Naomi’ is an enjoyable series that after taking a minute to establish the world and characters populating it quickly evolves into a fast paced ride with characters we can care about and more than enough twists, turns and clever surprises to keep you invested. Unfortunately even with the decent start it kicks off with, it only breaks the surface of the story in one season due to the premature cancellation. Fans of the series who would like to physically own its sole season in high definition should be quite pleased with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s 3-disc Blu-ray release of ‘Naomi: The Complete Series’. It brings home all thirteen episodes from the short-lived series with rather great high definition video and audio presentations on each episode, along with a few entertaining extras. If you’re a fan and already contemplating a purchase then the release is recommended, especially if you’re able to find it at the right price.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Naomi: The Complete Series’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the first (and only) season’s episodes. The video presentations look rather great as a whole and provide sharp, clean and nicely detailed presentations from start to finish on each episode. They hold up without issue even during the darkly lit and heavily populated moments and never result in any unexpected problems arising along the way, keeping things looking sharp and smooth across the board down to backgrounds and facial details. Overall, these are very nice high definition video presentations that should easily please fans of the series who would like to physically own its sole season.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 13 of the show’s episodes from its one and only season. These multichannel soundtracks never disappoint and deliver clean, sharp and well balanced audio presentations on every episode. They consistently utilize all five available channels in order to send everything from music to nature and action effects, crowd chatter and plenty more throughout the various speakers at every reasonable opportunity, while never causing any dialogue or other audio elements that may be occurring simultaneously to become distorted or negatively affected. Overall, these are great 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that do their job well and also contribute some extra fun to the viewing experience.
