Synopsis:

The notorious killer doll with the satanic smile comes back to life in this new chapter depicting the terrifying struggle between young Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) and the demonic doll attempting to possess his soul. Despite being roasted to a crisp in his last escapade, Chucky rises from the ashes after being reconstructed by a toy factory to dispel the negative publicity surrounding the doll. Back in one piece, Chucky tracks his prey to a foster home where the chase begins again in this fiendishly clever sequel to the enormously popular original.

Chucky returns in the fan-favorite sequel ‘Child’s Play 2’ which rejoins young Andy now living with a new family in a foster home when the diabolical doll is revived and sets out on a new bloody quest to track down his friend till the end and transfer his soul into the boy before it’s too late. The sequel was first released in 1990 and directed by John Lafia. It was also the first written entirely by creator Don Mancini who is still overseeing the franchise to this day and continually finding fresh, clever directions to take it. The cast once again includes Alex Vincent as Andy and Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky, in addition to series newcomers Jenny Agutter, Gerrit Graham, Christine Elise, Grace Zabriskie and Beth Grant.

[4K Ultra HD Review] ‘Child’s Play 2’ Collector’s Edition; Now Available From Scream Factory 2

‘Child’s Play 2’ definitely takes the series in a more colorful and humorous direction than its predecessor and is really the first film in the franchise that began to wholeheartedly embrace the style and tone that has continued along ever since, finding that perfect blend of bloody horror, chaos and a pitch black sense of humor. While the first film may have been superior in some ways, this follow-up is even more fun and the comedic horror approach really helped it to stand out in an early 1990’s horror market that certainly still had its share of horror franchises fighting for recognition and is quite likely a big part of what helped to make me such a massive fan of the franchise personally.

Scream Factory brings home ‘Child’s Play 2’ in a new 2-disc Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD release that serves up the fan-favorite Chucky sequel with a remarkable new 4K Ultra High Definition video presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, from a new 4K Scan of the Original Camera Negative. Somewhat surprisingly, this one looks even better than Scream Factory’s new 4K UHD Collector’s Edition release of the original ‘Child’s Play’ film and really astounds throughout with this truly impressive new presentation that should have fans ecstatic. The gorgeous video presentation is only complemented further by a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack for the film, along with quite a few noteworthy extras including numerous brand new interviews that are exclusive to this Collector’s Edition release. Diehard fans of the franchise and this particular sequel who are fully 4K capable will probably want to try and add this one to their collection whenever possible.

[4K Ultra HD Review] ‘Child’s Play 2’ Collector’s Edition; Now Available From Scream Factory 3

Overall, Scream Factory’s 4K Ultra HD Collector’s Edition release of ‘Child’s Play 2’ brings the fan favorite horror sequel home with a truly gorgeous new 4K Ultra HD video presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, paired with a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack and a spectacular collection of bonus content including numerous brand new extras created just for this release. It’s a truly impressive upgrade for the 1990 sequel which itself still holds up remarkably well over three decades later. It remains one of the most beloved entries in the franchise for good reason, not to mention being responsible for introducing the more humorous and colorful, yet even more gory style and tone that the franchise has stood out for and kept going strong to this day. If you’re a fan of the series and/or this sequel in particular and considering a purchase, this new 4K UHD release is highly recommended.

VIDEO:

The Scream Factory Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Child’s Play 2’ features a full 2160p Ultra High Definition presentation with Dolby Vision and HDR-10, with the film’s original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio, from a new 4K scan of the original camera negative. The video presentation looks truly magnificent and delivers a clean, sharp and vibrantly detailed presentation from start to finish that is a joy to behold. While altogether quite smooth, it still retains a faithfully filmic appearance throughout with noticeable improvements to detail across the board. The Dolby Vision addition only makes this one all the more impressive and provides breathtakingly sharp and rich colors and satisfyingly deep blacks and shadows with no noticeable troubles to be uncovered anywhere along the way. Overall, this is an outstanding Ultra High Definition video presentation that should thoroughly thrill fans of this beloved sequel.

The 4K Ultra HD Collector’s Edition release additionally includes the film on Blu-ray which is also taken from the new 4K scan of the movie.

AUDIO:

The Collector’s Edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release features a new Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 channel compatible) soundtrack. Please note that this review pertains solely to the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio presentation. This multichannel soundtrack provides a clean, sharp and at times fairly hard hitting audio presentation throughout. It may not be overly aggressive with the surround elements at all times, but still utilizes all seven available channels quite regularly to let effects and nature elements seep into the other speakers, as well as hitting more aggressively on occasion such as during the opening titles and the thunderstorm booming around the 1 hour, 6 minute and 20 second mark; all while making certain that any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously never become distorted or negatively affected in the process. Overall, this is a quite solid Dolby Atmos (Dolby TrueHD 7.1 compatible) soundtrack that never disappoints and should largely please the fans.

The included Blu-ray disc also includes the new Dolby Atmos soundtrack on the movie.
