The sixth and final season of ‘Supergirl’ is an enjoyable, action-packed and at times quite emotional final run for the DC series that finds Supergirl and her fellow heroes tackling two of their most dangerous foes, with (yep, you guessed it) the fate of the world hanging in the balance once again. Much of the season plays out in the typical style of the show but as it nears the final episodes it soon begins to touch on topics that clearly hint at some conclusion for the story, or at least as much of a conclusion as possible for a series of this sort. All of the expected factors are here including a pair of villains that are more trouble than any we’ve seen prior, as well as some nice closure offered for most of our key characters storylines, not to mention the return of many important characters from prior seasons that make a welcome return for the endgame which is always great to see.
It’s another thoroughly entertaining ride with plenty of touching moments, notable fight sequences and for the most part almost everything you would hope to see in the final season of a beloved series. If you’re a fan of ‘Supergirl’ but haven’t yet had a chance to catch up or finish the series, I would strongly encourage doing so. It may have started out on a somewhat rocky note and took a minute to find itself, but it’s certainly come a long way in its six-season run and proven to be a solid addition to the Arrowverse lineup of shows.
Overall, season six of ‘Supergirl’ delivers another exciting batch of episodes with plenty of action-packed fun and heartfelt moments. It also does a rather satisfying job of serving as a conclusion to the series and provides us with some fitting wrap-ups to character storylines and even numerous cast members from previous seasons returning for the finale. It’s a solid final season that fans of this DC series won’t want to miss out on if they haven’t already had the pleasure. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s 4-disc Blu-ray release of ‘Supergirl: The Sixth and Final Season’ also delivers admirably, serving up all twenty episodes with great high definition video and audio presentations (and spread between four discs allowing a competent bitrate for each), along with a couple of worthwhile extras. If you’re a fan of the show and considering a purchase, the release is definitely recommended.
The Blu-ray release of ‘Supergirl: The Sixth and Final Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the final season’s episodes. The video presentations look great as a whole and deliver clean, sharp and nicely detailed presentations from start to finish on all twenty episodes. They hold up impressively even during the numerous darkly lit, fast moving and heavily populated sequences throughout, never resulting in anything that’s occurring onscreen becoming problematic or negatively affected along the way. Overall, these are incredibly nice high definition video presentations that should easily please fans excited to complete their Blu-ray collection of the series.
The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 20 Season Six episodes. These multichannel soundtracks sound magnificent and offer clean, crisp and consistently aggressive audio presentations on each episode. They repeatedly utilize all five available channels in order to send music, action effects and characters along with plenty more whipping throughout the various speakers at every reasonable opportunity, and never conflicting with any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously. Overall, these are wonderful 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that sound great every step of the way and contribute plenty of extra fun and excitement to the viewing experience.
The Blu-ray release of ‘Supergirl: The Sixth and Final Season’ includes a couple notable extras that fans of the series should enjoy. Included on the release are ‘Deleted Scene(s)’ from nine of the included episodes (running approximately 17 minutes in length altogether) and the Featurette ‘A Farewell Tribute to Supergirl’ (running approximately 24 minutes) which features the cast reflecting on the series.
