Synopsis:

Anna Faris and Emmy® and Oscar® winner* Allison Janney star in this hilarious and heart-wrenching comedy from executive producer Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory). Christy (Faris) is still sober and has her life mostly back on track, though she’s continually tested by her mother, Bonnie (Janney). Together, the two work to overcome their mistakes and build a better future. Now, Christy is well on her way to becoming a lawyer, while Bonnie is in a healthy romantic relationship and has just married Adam (William Fichtner). Through it all, they rely on their support system from AA, including the wise Marjorie (Mimi Kennedy); the wealthy and sometimes misguided Jill (Jaime Pressly); the overly emotional Wendy (Beth Hall); and Bonnie’s foster sister, Tammy (Kristen Johnston), who was recently released from prison. Collectively, they help each other stay sober in the face of whatever life throws at them.

Please Note: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (Warner Archive Collection) provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Post. The opinions I share are my own.

The seventh season of ‘Mom’ joins the newly married Bonnie (Janney) and Adam (Fichtner) on their honeymoon where the quiet solitude and peaceful surroundings cause Bonnie to become restless. Eventually attending a meeting, she finds comfort in mentoring a local girl struggling with her sobriety which quickly conflicts when she invites her into their honeymoon plans. Meanwhile, the rest of the women back home find themselves struggling with plenty of their own hurdles, especially as Christy (Faris) tries to balance her life, sobriety and school to plenty of humorous results. Yet, within it all this pair of determined, sober women will once again find a way to overcome their struggles with plenty of hilarious consequences along the way.

Season Seven of ‘Mom’ brings our favorite struggling mother and daughter duo Bonnie and Christy back for another satisfying collection of hilarious misadventures as they continue to see their lives build into something rewarding as a result of all their hard work, not to mention the support of their close friends who are always there. The latest season of ‘Mom’ once again has us rooting for these women as they tackle the latest batch of humorous troubles and hurdles thrown their way and continues to prove that by not disregarding the more emotionally taxing elements that come with doing a series such as this properly, it really allows viewers to become emotionally involved in these characters in a far more personal way and makes a significant difference in how we experience the series when compared to how more traditional sitcoms are approached. The series has also benefited a great deal from the perfect casting selections and its ability to repeatedly add in various new characters along the way and effortlessly manage to make them feel right at home. With previous newcomers throughout the years such as Jaime Pressly, William Fichtner and Kristen Johnston along with others now serving as beloved regulars that are often nearly as crucial to the series as key leads Allison Janney and Anna Faris (a factor that will hopefully also help the upcoming eighth season following the somewhat shocking news that Faris is departing the series).

Overall, the seventh season of ‘Mom’ delivers another heartfelt, humorous and thoroughly enjoyable collection of episodes with our favorite mother and daughter pair of struggling alcoholics attempting to rebuild their lives. Filled with its signature brand of emotional and sometimes painful moments balanced by plenty of hilarious fun and chaos, fans of this long-running sitcom definitely won’t want to miss out on the latest season if they haven’t yet had the pleasure. As far as Warner Archive’s 2-disc DVD release of ‘Mom: The Complete Seventh Season’ in particular is concerned, it may be absent of any bonus content whatsoever but does serve up altogether solid standard definition video presentations and multichannel soundtracks on each of the latest season’s twenty episodes and should be more than satisfactory to anyone who makes a point of collecting the show’s DVD releases and is consistently pleased with what they have to offer.

VIDEO:

Warner Archive Collection’s DVD release of ‘Mom: The Complete Seventh Season’ features a 16×9 friendly video presentation with the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the seventh season’s episodes. The video presentations look pretty great as a whole and offer sharp, smooth and nicely detailed presentations for each episode with no notable faults or issues to be uncovered throughout. They hold up nicely even during the few fast moving, darkly lit or heavily populated moments, never resulting in anything occurring onscreen becoming negatively affected or rendered indiscernible. Overall, these are quite nice standard definition video presentations that shouldn’t have any trouble pleasing the dedicated fans of the series that collect the DVD releases for each season.

AUDIO:

The DVD release includes a 384 Kbps 5.1 channel Dolby Digital soundtrack on all 20 Season Seven episodes. These multichannel soundtracks provide crisp, sharp and occasionally somewhat active audio presentations for every episode of the season. They take advantage of all five available channels whenever appropriate in order to send some music, crowd chatter and other effects throughout the various speakers, while never allowing them to conflict with any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously. Overall, these are more than capable 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtracks that deliver in every way required of them and shouldn’t disappoint.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
