The stars of the hit TruTV series invite you to their first big-screen outing. ‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie’ tells the story of a humiliating high school mishap involving Q, Murr, Sal and Joe revolving around a Paula Abdul concert, and the subsequent chance at redemption that the Jokers are presented with after becoming famous themselves. But when they only receive three tickets for the event, these four friends naturally decide to compete in hidden camera challenges while on the road to their final destination in order to determine which unlucky Joker will be left out.

‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie’ is a hilarious, over the top feature length outing from the comedy troupe The Tenderloins (Joe Gatto, Sal Vulcano, Brian Quinn and James Murray), stars of the hit TV series ‘Impractical Jokers’ who team with ‘Funny or Die’ to take things to extremes that are wild even for these four. You may be initially thrown by the storyline segments considering that it’s something never done on the series and while some may be bothered by the over the top and goofy approach in which those scenes are handled (and the fact that they didn’t just compile a feature film length collection of bits), other fans should appreciate them in their own right for just how well they match the goofy comedy antics of these four individuals. While most of the outrageously hilarious moments within do stem from the included hidden camera bits that take things to extremes beyond even the show at times, the surrounding story elements actually work better than you might imagine and help to allow the guys to really go wild and have some fun while offering fans something unique for the film as opposed to merely the same thing as the show with a longer run time which is to be commended in its own right. Some moments admittedly get a tad too ridiculous and some content falls flatter than was likely intended, but as someone who is also a big fan of The Tenderloins and the ‘Impractical Jokers’ show, I can certainly say that while fans may have some conflicting opinions about some elements, all of them should still find a lot to enjoy within and will no doubt be laughing heartily on multiple occasions.

Overall, ‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie’ combines the outrageous hidden camera antics the show is famous for taken to new extremes, while combining some story elements to carry the tale along and offer fans something different as opposed to simply an extended episode on the big screen. It may not hit every single mark, but altogether still serves up a hilarious feature with some definite replay value. ‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie’ is definitely recommended for fans of the popular show on TruTV who should at least find plenty of hearty laughs within this enjoyable romp, even if some may be bothered by the story elements that can be excessively cheesy, while other fans are liable to enjoy them for how well the ridiculous approach fits the style of these four. For any Impractical Jokers fans it’ll probably at least prove worthy of your time and the price of a rental and many hardcore fans will probably also want to pick up a copy of the Blu-ray to add to their collection at some point.

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with the film’s original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks quite fantastic altogether and provides a sharp, smooth and nicely detailed presentation from start to finish. Although I wasn’t able to locate any concrete filming details, it also often seems to retain an almost filmic grain that nicely compliments the scripted sequences in particular. It holds up impressively even during the heavily populated and fast moving moments, never allowing anything onscreen to become negatively affected. Overall, this is a great high definition video presentation that shouldn’t have any trouble satisfying the fans considering a purchase.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio Soundtrack. This multichannel soundtrack delivers a clean, crisp and occasionally quite active audio presentation throughout. It more often than not keeps much of the audio content centered yet does take advantage of all five available channels regularly in order to send music, crowd chatter and nature elements along with more throughout the various speakers at every fitting opportunity, while always making certain that any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously never become distorted or rendered inaudible in the process.
