Synopsis:

In season two, following the aftermath of their encounter with Trigon, Dick Grayson reforms the Titans.  Under his supervision in their new home at Titans Tower, Rachel aka Raven, Gar aka Beast Boy and Jason Todd aka Robin train together as a team. They are joined by Hank Hall and Dawn Granger aka Hawk and Dove and Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl.  Although these original Titans attempt to transition into a regular life, when old enemies resurface everyone must come together to take care of unfinished business.  And as this family of old and new Titans – including Conner Kent and Rose Wilson – learn to co-exist, the arrival of Deathstroke, brings to light the sins of the old Titans which threaten to tear this new Titans family apart once more.

Please Note: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Post. The opinions I share are my own.

The second season of DC Universe’s ‘Titans’ picks up following the first season’s cliffhanger with Trigon now here and taking control of our heroes, until the person he expects least is able to stop him before he can continue his wrath; at least for now. Following the chaos, Dick begins reevaluating certain choices and decisions, eventually seeking the help of Bruce Wayne in order to reopen Titans Tower and begin forming a new version of the group. But when the dangerous assassin Deathstroke who the Titans have a painful history with shows up and begins causing a fresh batch of trouble, troubling secrets and past mistakes soon rise to the surface causing friction within the group that may be too much for them to move beyond.

The sophomore season of ‘Titans’ rejoins our heroes following their dangerous confrontation with the powerful Trigon, as their friendship builds and the group begins to become a family of sorts everything seems to be improving. That is until the deadly Deathstroke who has a troubled and personal connection with the previous Titans team returns to the city and starts causing havoc for our heroes once old secrets, tragedies and other painful aspects of their last encounter begin coming to light. The second season brings back your favorite troubled heroes from the debut season, while also introducing a few noteworthy newcomers (a couple of which were teased in the after credits scene of the season one finale) and famous Titans baddie Deathstroke which allows for a whole new mess of personal conflictions, uncertainties and danger. It occasionally finds itself slowing down a bit more than we might prefer, but the big moments and intense, action-packed confrontations help to keep viewers from ever really losing focus. It’s a solid second season for the most part that fans of the first will surely want to make a point of checking out.

As far as Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s 2-disc ‘Titans: The Complete Second Season’ Blu-ray release is concerned, it’s a tad light on the bonus content (it does still offer one behind the scenes Featurette), although it definitely delivers in regard to the quality, providing wonderful high definition video and audio presentations on all thirteen season two episodes that shouldn’t disappoint whatsoever, along with the usual side slipcase packaging that’ll fit on your shelf perfectly next to the first season’s Blu-ray release.

Overall, season two of ‘Titans’ is a fun, exciting and at times quite tense sophomore run for the DC series that allows the characters to start finding their way into the bigger scope of the Titans mythology, while still keeping things fairly dark, violent and adult-oriented, with plenty of twists, turns and revelations to keep you glued to the screen. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s 2-disc Blu-ray release of ‘Titans: The Complete Second Season’ in particular brings home all thirteen episodes from season two of DC Universe’s live-action series sporting fantastic high definition video and audio presentations that should easily thrill the fans, even with the lack of bonus content within (although one Featurette is included). For those who were pleased with the first season’s Blu-ray release and are considering a purchase, it definitely shouldn’t disappoint in the quality department; the release is recommended!

VIDEO:

The Blu-ray release of ‘Titans: The Complete Second Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation with an Aspect Ratio of approximately 2.20:1 on all of the sophomore season’s episodes. The video presentations look great and offer up sharp, smooth and nicely detailed presentations from start to finish on every episode. They hold up remarkably well even during the various darkly lit and/or fast moving sequences, never causing anything occurring onscreen to become negatively affected or rendered indiscernible. Overall, these are solid high definition video presentations that should satisfy fans of the series excited to physically own the latest season.

AUDIO:

The Blu-ray release features a 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 13 Season Two episodes. These multichannel soundtracks are quite the treat in themselves, providing clean, crisp and hard hitting audio presentations on each episode. They repeatedly take advantage of all five available channels in order to send music, action effects, nature content and bits of dialogue along with plenty more zipping throughout the various speakers whenever appropriate, and never allowing any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously to become distorted or rendered inaudible in the process. Overall, these are fantastic 5.1 DTS-HD MA soundtracks that contribute plenty of extra fun and tension to the overall viewing experience and should easily thrill the fans.
