It’s time to head back on down to ‘South Park’ once again with our favorite foul mouthed foursome for ‘South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season’ on Blu-ray. Featuring all ten uncensored episodes from the latest season which explores the increasing presence of school shootings which have become a common way of life in South Park, while the sudden appearance of Motorized Scooters offers a new, ultimate way of trick or treating for the children, and our kids also find out that the prior rantings of Al Gore about the supposed Man-Bear-Pig weren’t as crazy as they initially believed; not to mention the Marsh family leaving the town to start a new life on a “Colorado Farm”, and plenty more ridiculous and hilarious themes that come together in this latest 2-disc collection compiling all ten episodes of Season 22 from the popular animated series.
The latest season of ‘South Park’ offers fans another fun batch of episodes that seems to find itself simultaneously keeping the ongoing storylines of late and also going back to the old resetting formula much of the time in other regards. The balance helps to make for a pretty solid season overall that brings back many fan favorites including Mr. Hankey, Al Gore and the Man-Bear-Pig debacle, and of course, the big, bad and lovable Satan for some epic new appearances. Not to mention sending the Marsh family off to live on a Colorado weed farm which ends up being one of the more hilarious and welcome elements in recent years of the show. For the longtime fans simply curious about the release’s technical merits, you can rest easy if you were pleased with the previous season releases as the Blu-ray release for ‘South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season’ keeps true to all of the prior sets with another 2-disc collection featuring the same Digipak packaging style and featuring all ten uncensored episodes with wonderful high definition video and audio presentations on each, plus of course a couple of fun extras fans should appreciate including ‘Mini Commentaries with Trey and Matt’ on every episode plus more (as always, please see the technical specification coverage of the review below for more detailed information). Any collector of the show on Blu-ray that was more than content with any/all of the previous season releases will almost surely want to make a point of picking this one up sooner than later too and shouldn’t be the slightest bit disappointed when you do.
Overall, the twenty-second season of ‘South Park’ takes fans for another humorous ride into our favorite animated town that features its share of noteworthy new episodes, while also bringing back many character favorites from over the years for some unforgettable and hilariously over the top new appearances. The Blu-ray release of ‘South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season’ in particular brings home all ten uncensored episodes from the animated show’s most recent season in this 2-disc collection that features the solid high definition video and audio presentations we’ve come to appreciate and expect each year, in addition of course to a few fun extras which altogether will surely make this one another must own for fans of the series that make a point of collecting it.
The Blu-ray release of ‘South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the twenty-second season’s episodes. The video presentations look pretty great altogether and provide the usual sharp, smooth and vividly colored presentations we’ve come to appreciate and expect each year, looking clean and sharp down to nearly each animated line and suffering no notable faults or issues to be uncovered throughout. Overall, these are another batch of great high definition video presentations from Paramount that should more than satisfy fellow fans.
The Blu-ray release features an uncensored 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on all 10 Season Twenty-Two episodes. These multichannel soundtracks offer the usual crisp, clean and somewhat tame audio presentations on every episode. They occasionally take advantage of all five available channels in order to send subtle bits of music, background noise and a few other effects throughout the various speakers, while also making certain that any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously remain clean fully audible at all times. Overall, these are solid 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtracks that deliver in every way necessary and sound consistently clean and sharp, even if never getting overly active in the surround department.
The Blu-ray release of ‘South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season’ features the usual collection of extras including ‘Mini Audio Commentaries by Trey and Matt’ on every episode, in addition to some ‘Deleted Scenes’ from select episodes (running approximately 8 minutes altogether) and ‘#SocialCommentary’ editions of all ten episodes which include social media posts, tweets and other social comments relating to each episode on the bottom of the screen.
