Last season, the Winchesters were reunited with their resurrected mother, Mary, who joined forces with the British Men of Letters. But things turned from bad to worse, with the return of Lucifer and the surprising revelation that the Devil was expecting a child with a human mother. In Season Thirteen, Sam and Dean find themselves facing Lucifer’s offspring, a creature of almost unimaginable power – one that could save the world… or destroy it.
Please Note: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Post. The opinions I share are my own.
When we last left the Winchester brothers at the end of Season Twelve, things were looking bleak to say the least; Jack, the son of Lucifer has arrived and while they may have managed to send Lucifer into an alternate dimension, they lost their mother along with him; in addition to the deaths of Castiel and Crowley on top of everything else. Season thirteen of ‘Supernatural’ rejoins Sam and Dean as their painful multiple losses and the challenge of caring for and guiding the son of Satan makes for a whole new set of problems. Now they must try and keep his darker side at bay and teach him the difference between right and wrong, while somehow hopefully finding a way into another universe in order to save their mother who they aren’t ready to lose again so soon. Fortunately a bit of good luck and some other unexpected occurrences just may give them the hope and faith needed to persevere.
Another year of television is past, and yet another season of ‘Supernatural’ along with it. Miraculously still going after thirteen years (and with season fourteen set to debut this October on The CW), perhaps even more impressive than how long it’s lasted is just how competently it manages to hold its own, still managing to come up with clever, emotional and consistently funny storylines that never seem to feel stale or overly ridiculous. Bringing back some fan favorite characters this season and tossing them into some more wildly entertaining and potentially apocalyptic scenarios that only these monster hunting brothers can combat.
Those fans simply interested in the latest season release’s technical merits can rest assured that it more than holds up with the previous season releases on Blu-ray and yet again retains the style and similarities in packaging in order to make sure it fits perfectly among the other sets in your collection. Providing overall impressive high definition video and audio presentations on all twenty-three episodes, in addition to some worthwhile extras including Audio Commentary tracks and Deleted Scene(s) on select episodes along with more (please see the technical specification coverage of the review below for some more detailed information) which will likely make the Blu-ray release of ‘Supernatural: The Complete Thirteenth Season’ yet another must own for the fellow longtime fans of the show that have been collecting the series on Blu-ray for years.
Overall, the thirteenth season of ‘Supernatural’ yet again manages to provide fans with another tense, emotional and hilarious season of action-packed fun. Still managing to hold up remarkably well thirteen years down the road and consistently finding clever and wildly exciting stories and even plenty of surprises to offer up after so long. Any fans of this beloved long running series that haven’t yet had the pleasure of the latest season (or even the last few) won’t want to give up on this one just yet; as hard as it may be to fathom, ‘Supernatural’ still delivers the goods and is well worth sticking with. Those who have been collecting all of the previous season releases on Blu-ray will surely want to make a point of picking up ‘Supernatural: The Complete Thirteenth Season’ on Blu-ray as well when you get the chance, it’s another solid 4-disc collection that keeps with the long-running packaging elements guaranteeing it will fit perfectly next to the other twelve box sets on your shelf.
