In the third and final season of the STARZ hit series, chainsaw-wielding Ash fights to save the world from evil with Pablo and Kelly, and unexpectedly makes a shocking discovery.
The third season of ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’ rejoins our beloved bumbling hero Ash who has gone from the most despicable man in the town’s history to the most beloved following his latest heroic battle with evil. Finally allotted some time to get back to life, Ash is ready to open up his own superstore in his home town, while Pablo and Kelly each find their own specific passions. But when evil is once again accidently unleashed it quickly sets its sites on a young girl who just happens to be Ash’s daughter. Now attempting to build a lost relationship with the daughter previously unbeknownst to him while also tackling the increasing evil insanity building around every turn, Ash and his teammates soon realize that this battle appears to be on a much greater scale; the stakes bigger than ever before.
The third, and unfortunately as fate would have it also the final season of the spectacular Starz Original Series ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’ delivers another hilarious, tense and blood soaked collection of episodes that somehow manage to up the stakes yet again, while assaulting fans with more than enough buckets of blood and gore to appease even the hardest of genre fans. Loaded with laughs, thrills and even a surprising amount of heart at times amidst the bloody insanity, while taking our characters in some wild and even occasionally shocking directions as things only become increasingly worse once these powerful forces of evil begin to get a foothold. Unfortunately, the cancellation of the show by Starz does indeed result in a severe lack of closure and plenty of brand new questions introduced on top of it. Yet fortunately everything else about this wildly enjoyable and gore-soaked third season still makes it a definite must for fans of the long running franchise. I would definitely urge fellow fans that haven’t yet had the pleasure of this third and final season to make a point of giving it a watch whenever you have the opportunity; you won’t want to miss out on this killer set of episodes and can rest assured that the greatness mostly outweighs the disappointment. As far as the technical merits of the Blu-ray release go, it more than holds up with the previous two season releases and offers impressive high definition video and audio presentations on each and every episode, in addition to a couple solid bonus features (please see the technical specification coverage of the review below for some more detailed information). Altogether it’s sure to make a definite must own for the fellow fans that already have the other season sets (and likely the films) on their shelf.
Overall, fellow fans of the beloved ‘Evil Dead’ franchise in its entirety and/or this series in particular that have been collecting the previous season releases on Blu-ray will probably want to make a point of picking up ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead: The Complete Third Season’ on Blu-ray in order to complete your collection. The latest season’s Blu-ray release once again provides fantastic high definition video and audio presentations on all ten episodes, in addition to a couple worthwhile extras, making up a worthy 2-disc collection that should have no trouble satisfying those pleased with the prior two season sets. While fans that haven’t yet had the chance to check out what ended up being the final set of episodes for the series may be understandably hesitant at this point due to the cancellation and the resulting lack of closure provided, I would still highly recommend binge watching them at some point down the road if nothing else. It’s certainly disappointing to see the series conclude before intended, but this third season is definitely something special nonetheless and well worth your time.
The Blu-ray release of ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead: The Complete Third Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the third season’s episodes. The video presentations look fantastic as a whole and provide sharp, detailed and clean presentations on each episode, with no notable faults to be found throughout. They hold up remarkably well even during the numerous darkly lit and fast moving action sequences, never causing anything occurring on screen to become negatively affected or rendered indiscernible. Overall, these are wonderful high definition video presentations that should have no problem pleasing the fellow fans.
The Blu-ray release features a lossless 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on all 10 Season Three episodes. These multichannel soundtracks make a marvelous compliment to the onscreen mayhem and offer crisp, detailed and hard hitting audio presentations on every episode. They constantly take full advantage of all seven available channels in order to immerse the viewing in the insanity, sending bullets, chainsaws and other action elements whipping throughout the various speakers with regularity, along with creepy sound effects, crowd chatter and plenty more, while always making certain that any dialogue or additional audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously remain clean and fully audible. Overall, these are spectacular Dolby TrueHD 7.1 soundtracks that deliver across the board and contribute a great deal of additional fun to the viewing experience.
