Synopsis:

The adventures continue for tech genius Hiro Hamada and his healthcare companion, the lovable, inflatable Baymax! Picking up right before the end of the film, Hiro thinks Baymax is lost forever, until he finds the chip Tadashi designed to create Baymax. Hiro immediately gets to work rebuilding Baymax, but Hiro’s overconfidence and impatience get him into trouble. The stakes are raised for Hiro, Baymax and their friends – adrenaline junkie Go Go, control freak Wasabi, chem whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred – as they fight to protect San Fransokyo as the legendary superhero team Big Hero 6.

Baymax, Hiro and all of your other favorite superheroes of San Fransokyo are back in a new animated series based on Disney’s hit animated film. ‘Big Hero 6 The Series’ returns viewers to the world of San Fransokyo and accompanies our group of ragtag genius heroes as they are forced to become a staple of crime fighting in their beloved city when one terrifying threat after another is unleashed against the innocent people of their town with no one else equipped to stand against them. Now Hiro, his trusty healthcare companion Baymax and his group of friends must try and balance their superhero personas while still tackling everyday school and family problems and doing their best to juggle it all.

‘Big Hero 6 The Series’ is an enjoyable and welcome continuation of the Disney film that fellow fans should have quite a bit of fun with. It largely retains the tone and aura of the movie, keeping things lighthearted and generally easygoing in nature, without twisting the story and concept into something silly just for the kiddies. Instead finding a level balance that should have no trouble keeping the kids happy while still managing to thoroughly entertain the adult fans. It will probably take diehard fans of the film a short while to become accustomed to the animation style which as should be expected is certainly different than that of the feature, yet it holds its own quite well and for the most part fits with the style and tone of the ongoing story remarkably well. The Disney DVD release of ‘Big Hero 6 The Series – Back In Action!’ comes home featuring the 45 minute double-length premiere episode ‘Baymax Returns’ in addition to 6 more episodes and 6 Bonus Shorts to boot, each sporting solid video and audio presentations that look great as far as the limits of the DVD format allows. It should have little trouble providing hours of fun for kids of all ages, and for those with little ones at home it will also likely prove a solid candidate for frequent revisits.

Overall, ‘Big Hero 6 The Series’ offers a fun collection of adventures picking up the story after the conclusion of the feature film. Bringing enough action-packed fun, adventure and laughs to satisfy the young and old fans of the movie alike and featuring numerous returning actors reprising their voice roles as well (with a few exceptions naturally). Anyone who enjoyed the animated movie which it was based on will probably want to try and make a point of giving this animated series a shot when you have the chance, odds are you’ll be pleased you decided to do so. Those with young kids at home that are likely to want to revisit this collection of episodes (or older fans liable to desire doing the same) that don’t mind the DVD format in general should also be rather pleased with the ‘Big Hero 6 The Series – Back In Action!’ DVD release which offers pretty gorgeous standard definition video presentations and decent audio on all seven of the included episodes.

VIDEO:

The DVD release of ‘Big Hero 6 The Series – Back In Action!’ features a 16×9 friendly video presentation on all 7 included episodes, each utilizing the 1.78:1 aspect ratio in which they were originally broadcast. The video presentations look pretty wonderful to the extent allowed by the format , providing sharp, detailed and vibrantly colorful presentations on every included episode. They hold up surprisingly well even during the fast moving, heavily populated and darkly lit sequences, never causing anything occurring on screen to become negatively affected or rendered indiscernible. Overall, these are great standard definition video presentations that should easily please those that still embrace or even prefer the DVD format.

AUDIO:

The DVD release includes a 192 kbps 2.0 channel stereo Dolby Digital soundtrack on all 7 of the included episodes. These lossy stereo soundtracks sound pretty decent and deliver crisp and clean audio presentations on each included episode, balancing the dialogue, action effects and other audio elements capably between the two channels and never resulting in any conflictions or any dialogue becoming distorted, let along rendered inaudible when accompanied by other audio activity. Overall, these are wholly capable 2.0 stereo Dolby Digital soundtracks that may not be anything special, but still hold their own with no obvious issues throughout.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The DVD release of ‘Big Hero 6 The Series – Back In Action!’ doesn’t include much in the way of bonus goodies, but the release does include ‘6 Bonus Shorts’ (running approximately 2 minutes each) featuring Baymax and other members of the team.
