When “Fear the Walking Dead” returns for Season 3, our families are brought together in the vibrant and violent ecotone of the U.S.-Mexico border. With international lines done away with following the world’s end, our characters must attempt to rebuild not only society, but their families as well.
Season three of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ rejoins our families on both sides of the US/Mexico border and in new predicaments all around. Desperate to believe there is still a safe place where they can build a home, new meetings and a sudden tragic moment lead the majority to a survivalist group that have been planning for just such an occurrence. Intent to prove their worth and hopefully settle down for good in the ranch the survivalist community calls home, Madison and her lot soon begin to realize that there is always something unexpected and dangerous looming around every turn and in this chaotic world there may simply not be any safe places remaining. Meanwhile, over the border in Mexico, old friends in tough places and others believed dead find new purposes as they attempt to move forward and do what they feel is best. But for this group of intertwined families, fate seems to have a way of always pulling them back together eventually, whether for good or bad.
The third season of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is another powerful entry in the companion series that oversees events on both sides of the border and serves up more calm intensity, powerful emotion and even some brutal and downright heartbreaking moments that won’t be quickly forgotten. This surprisingly clever and beautifully crafted show continues to prove itself superior to its parent series every step of the way, and the shocking events and paths taken in season three continue to display the show’s careful perfection as it only manages to improve each subsequent season. Diehard fans of the overall TWD universe or of this gem of a series in particular will probably want to consider purchasing a copy of ‘Fear The Walking Dead: The Complete Third Season’ on Blu-ray and should be fairly pleased with this 4-disc collection (and the first season to be distributed by Lionsgate Home Entertainment following the studio’s acquisition of Anchor Bay/Starz who distributed the previous two season releases on Blu-ray and DVD) which delivers fantastic high definition video and audio presentations on all sixteen episodes, and a couple of decent extras. Albeit undeniably lighter in the bonus content department than last season’s Blu-ray release (see the technical specification coverage below for information regarding the included special features this time around) it otherwise holds up tremendously and should have little trouble satisfying the fans. Casual fans of the series or those who merely haven’t had a chance to catch the third season may also want to look into a possible rental option if nothing else in order to catch up before the new season debuts on AMC next month.
Overall, fans of this surprisingly marvelous series that have been collecting the previous season releases on Blu-ray will almost surely want to make a point of picking up a copy of ‘Fear The Walking Dead: The Complete Third Season’ on Blu-ray to add to your collection as well, at least at some point. This 4-disc Blu-ray set brings home all 16 episodes from the third season of the companion series (and the far superior series of the two as well) to ‘The Walking Dead’ with impressive high definition video and audio presentations on every episode that don’t disappoint. Perhaps the only aspect of the release some fans may be slightly disappointed with is the notably smaller collection of extras this time around. Nonetheless, this release should still thoroughly please the fans who simply want to have the ability to enjoy any or all of this solid third season at any time you might desire, and in the best available video and audio quality available.
The Blu-ray release of ‘Fear The Walking Dead: The Complete Third Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the third season’s episodes. The video presentations look great as a whole and deliver sharp, clean and detailed presentations on every episode, with no notable faults to be uncovered throughout. They hold up impressively even during the numerous darkly lit and fast moving sequences, never causing anything occurring on screen to become negatively affected or rendered indiscernible. Overall, these are wonderful high definition video presentations from Lionsgate that should easily satisfy the fans.
The Blu-ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on all 16 Season Three episodes. These multichannel soundtracks provide crisp, clean and fairly hard hitting audio presentations on each included episode. They frequently take advantage of all five available channels in order to send the series’ wonderful score, along with plenty of calm, creepy effects, nature elements, crowd chatter and a whole lot more throughout the various speakers with regularity, and never allowing any dialogue or other audio elements that might be occurring simultaneously to become distorted or rendered inaudible as a result. Overall, these are fantastic 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtracks that consistently deliver and compliment the show beautifully.
The Blu-ray release of ‘Fear The Walking Dead: The Complete Third Season’ includes a couple of decent extras, although is definitely an overall downgrade compared to the collection of extras included on the previous season. Included on the release are ‘Audio Commentary tracks’ on 3 of the season’s episodes, in addition to ‘Deleted and Alternate Scenes’ for 9 episodes (running approximately 16 minutes in length altogether).
