Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this Post. The opinions I share are my own.
Attention Peanuts fans, get ready to gather the entire family (or simply yourself) in front of the boob tube once again for another round of amusing animated shorts based directly on the classic ‘Peanuts’ comic strips. The second 2-disc DVD set (if you missed our review of the first 2-DVD Collection ‘Snoopy Tales’ you can read it here) ‘Peanuts By Schulz: Go Team Go!’ collects 19 new animated shorts from the series that (while not entirely) focus primarily on sports-centered stories as your favorite characters try their hand at everything from Ice Skating to Baseball, Football, Tennis and plenty more throughout the course of the two discs, all of which naturally include plenty of mishaps, antics and laughs amidst the good natured sports themed fun.
‘Peanuts By Schulz: Go Team Go!’ brings home another helping of family-friendly animated shorts featuring your favorite peanuts characters and based on the original comic strips that made them famous. Fans of the new animated series and Peanuts fanatics in general may want to consider picking up a copy of the new 2-disc DVD collection ‘Go Team Go!’ which delivers solid video and audio presentations on all 19 included episodes and no shortage of lighthearted fun for all. That being said, you might also want to consider holding off for a tad or try purchasing it via a notable sale as the release is also somewhat lacking in a few aspects. The absence of any bonus content for one, which is somewhat expected as the same was the case with the previous ‘Peanuts’ DVD release, although the amount of overall content on this latest 2-disc set is notably less, offering slightly over an hour per disc as opposed to the last release which was closer to 2 hours on each, a factor which also begs the question as to why it was released as a 2-disc set considering the bitrate doesn’t seem to have to increased in any significant way and at that quality one DVD disc could easily handle less than 2 and a half hours of overall animated content. The new included shorts are certainly fun and the quality is consistently on par, it’s merely a question of how much you can personally justify spending on a DVD release featuring the amount of content included within.
Overall, the latest 2-disc DVD collection ‘Peanuts By Schulz: Go Team Go!’ provides a number of new animated shorts, many of which are sports themed, and all of which deliver fun and laughs for the whole family; each also with video and audio presentations that hold up quite well. Unfortunately the release doesn’t include any extras whatsoever and the new set features only slightly over an hour of content on each disc. While many Peanuts fanatics will still definitely want to consider picking up a copy of the release to add to their collection at some point, they may want to be somewhat cautious and try to make a point of doing so when the price is right; unless of course you are unable wait.
The DVD release of ‘Peanuts By Schulz: Go Team Go!’ features a 16×9 friendly video presentation on all 19 included episodes, each utilizing the 1.78:1 aspect ratio in which they were originally broadcast. The video presentation looks pretty great as a whole as far as the DVD format allots and provides a consistently clean, colorful and fairly sharp presentation throughout, without any real issues or faults to be found at any point within. Overall, this is a solid standard definition video presentation that offers a clean and satisfactory presentation on each included episode that should please the fans who don’t mind the DVD format to begin with.
The DVD release includes a 384 kbps 5.1 channel Dolby Digital soundtrack on all 19 of the included animated shorts. These multichannel soundtracks sound fantastic for what they are and offer a crisp, clean and smooth audio presentation on each and every episode within. While not overly aggressive in the surround activity, it nonetheless takes advantage of all five available channels in order to send the music and a few other mild surround elements throughout the various speakers somewhat regularly, and never negatively affecting any dialogue or other auditory elements that might be occurring simultaneously. Overall, these are fully capable 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtracks that deliver in every way required of them and shouldn’t disappoint.
As was the case with the previous ‘Peanuts’ DVD collection released earlier this year, the DVD release of ‘Peanuts By Schulz: Go Team Go!’ doesn’t include any extras whatsoever.
