In Season 19 of the monumental and ever controversial animated series ‘South Park’ things are about to change drastically in this small Colorado town. When the longtime school principal is fired for failing to properly discipline a student following an offensive remark, a new politically correct individual named PC Principal (naturally) is hired to rectify matters. As if the tension of his PC priorities within the school weren’t bad enough, he soon creates a new PC frat and before long Randy Marsh and others join and the ricochet from their PC smugness sets off a chain reaction leading to the complete reconstruction of South Park including the most important step for a politically advanced town, the addition of a Whole Foods. Unfortunately PC Principal and the new Whole Foods may be the least of the townsfolk’s worries as the truth behind everything begins to become clear in this hilarious new season of ‘South Park’.
The nineteenth season of ‘South Park’ takes the series to some surprisingly different places than we’ve come to expect from this hilarious and offensive little animated show that could. Surely the most significant change in the latest season is the Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s decision to truly serialize the show for the first time ever as opposed to the reset method they have so securely adapted over the previous years. While the last season certainly retained more continuity and revisited events than ever before, Season Nineteen is the first to truly connect the dots so thoroughly. Even while the decision to do so may not have been planned ahead of time (as discussed in some detail within the Season Commentary) it’s still a unique change of pace for ‘South Park’ and one that worked surprisingly well while also revitalizing the show wonderfully. Any fellow fans of the series who haven’t yet had a chance (or simply chose not to) watch the latest season should definitely consider doing so; Season Nineteen comes together to form one fantastic overall event that works splendidly and should not be missed.
Fellow ‘South Park’ fanatics will definitely want to make certain to pick up a copy of ‘The Complete Nineteenth Season’ on Blu-ray to add to their collections. The Blu-ray release of the latest season once again delivers the fantastic high definition video and uncensored audio presentations we’ve come to love and expect, in addition to a few worthwhile extras including ‘#SocialCommentary’ on every episode in the season and more (more detailed information regarding the bonus content can be found in the special features section of the technical specification coverage below), altogether certain to make this one a definite must own for many of the fellow fans out there who haven’t already purchased their copy.
Overall, fellow fans of the series will likely want to pick up a copy of ‘South Park: The Complete Nineteenth Season’ on Blu-ray in order to have the ability to revisit this wonderful season in all of its uncensored high definition glory time and again. Casual fans of the series that haven’t yet had a chance to check out the latest season but are hesitant to drop the funds on a blind purchase will definitely want to at least rent the episodes (or the BD/DVD set) if possible; you won’t want to miss out on this one.
The Blu-ray release of ‘South Park: The Complete Nineteenth Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the nineteenth season’s episodes. The video presentations look outstanding as a whole and deliver consistently sharp, detailed and gloriously bright presentations on every episode in the season. Suffering no notable faults throughout and holding up beautifully down to nearly every line of animation. Overall, these are another batch of fantastic high definition video presentations that should easily please the fellow diehard fans of the series.
The Blu-ray release features an uncensored lossless 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on all 10 Season Nineteen episodes. These lossless multichannel soundtracks provide crisp, clean and occasionally somewhat aggressive audio presentations on every episode. Utilizing all five available channels in order to send the series’ music throughout the various speakers along with the occasional tidbit of action or crowd related ambience, and never resulting in any dialogue which may be occurring simultaneously to become distorted or inaudible. Overall, these are solid 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtracks that deliver in every way required of them and showcase all of the season’s uncensored insanity beautifully.
The Blu-ray release of ‘South Park: The Complete Nineteenth Season’ includes a couple of enjoyable extras. Included on the release is ‘#SocialCommentary’ on every episode of the season (twitter posts from SP Studios listed at the bottom of the screen throughout the episodes), in addition to ‘Season Commentary with series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’ (running approximately 27 minutes in length), a collection of ‘Deleted Scene(s)’ from a number of the season’s episodes (approximately 6 minutes altogether), and ‘South Park: The Fractured But Whole E3 2016 Game Trailer’ (2 minutes).
