‘Wabbit: A Looney Tunes Production’ is a funny and thoroughly entertaining new take on the Looney Tunes world, focusing primarily on Bugs Bunny and a new character named Squeaks the Squirrel which accompanies him in many of his latest adventures. While as many are already familiar, the previous animated series ‘The Looney Tunes Show’ utilized a situation comedy approach with 20 minute episodes revolving around Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck and the house they shared, where ‘Wabbit’ returns to the more familiar formula of animated shorts, each episode running approximately 11 minutes in length and including two animated shorts within. While I’m admittedly a huge fan of the previous series and it remains one of my personal favorites, it’s also great to see the animated shorts back in the game which helps to allow for more range and erratic goofiness within the series that as a result helps to keep the series feeling consistently fresh. It’s also sure to more easily maintain the attention spans of the younger viewers which certainly can’t hurt.
Fans of Looney Tunes in general and especially of Bugs Bunny, as well many households with kids young and old (this means you fellow adults) will likely want to make certain to pick up a copy of ‘Wabbit: A Looney Tunes Production: Season One Part One – Hare-Raising Tales’ on DVD to add to your collection. While some may be understandably disappointed by the lack of a Blu-ray release, fortunately this 2-disc DVD collection delivers quite the impressive standard definition video presentations and solid 5.1 channel Dolby Digital soundtracks on each of the 26 included episodes. Unfortunately the release doesn’t include any bonus content, but the nearly five hours worth of Bugs’ zany antics should easily keep viewers of all ages thoroughly enthralled.
Overall, ‘Wabbit: A Looney Tunes Production’ is a humorous and enjoyable new series that simultaneously takes a new approach while always serving as a wonderful throwback to the original animated shorts that started it all and I highly recommend fellow Looney Tunes and Bugs Bunny fans of all ages check this one out, you’ll likely be quite pleased you decided to do so.
