Experience the epic 13-episode event series, Heroes Reborn, from Tim Kring, the creator of the global phenomenon, Heroes. Kring creates a wildly imaginative and thrilling new volume in the Heroes universe featuring a host of new characters with startling powers. After a massive terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, evolved humans are blamed for the tragic event, forcing them into hiding or on the run from those seeking retribution. The conflict between humans and evolved humans – dubbed “Evos” – escalates into all out civil warfare. Timely, thought-provoking, and startling inventive, Heroes Reborn recaptures the magic of the original series and lays the foundation for the next volume in the Heroes mythology.
Returning viewers to the world initially introduced by Tim Kring in the original ‘Heroes’ series which debuted on NBC in 2006, the new Event Series ‘Heroes Reborn’ brings us to a new and more terrifying time for Evos (or those with extraordinary abilities) and introduces us to a number of new individuals with extraordinary gifts, while also including a number of familiar faces from the original series. ‘Heroes Reborn’ kicks off with a literal bang, beginning with a catastrophic event which occurred in June of 2014 and then quickly jumping ahead one year where we meet up with Noah Bennet of the previous series (also widely referred to as HRG) as he desperately searches for answers related to the mysterious death of his daughter Claire which occurred on that dreadful day, Noah apparently having had his memory wiped of that day’s events. As he begins to put the pieces together, the connections between heroes new and old across the globe and the stakes at hand turn out to be more than he could have ever anticipated. Now, the fate of perhaps the entire world rests in the hands of a collection of individuals who have once again been seemingly connected by destiny.
‘Heroes Reborn’ does an excellent job of capturing the overall tone and aura of the original series, tossing viewers into a new storyline with many new characters, yet never missing a beat and in nearly no time at all it’s hard to believe that it’s in fact been half of a decade since we last found ourselves in this extraordinary world filled with rich and complex characters. While Noah is the only individual from the original series who returns in a leading role, many other classic characters do return in recurring appearances and Kring and his team have done an impressive job of weaving together the storylines of these two generations of heroes, and the twists, turns and connections uncovered along the way should easily have fellow fans as enthralled from start to finish as it did myself. These 13 episodes do act well as a single ‘Event Series’ for the most part and do indeed largely wrap events as well as provide a fairly satisfying conclusion to the storyline in which we are introduced, although there are certainly some little teases at the end, as well as Tim Kring and the creative teams obvious choice to once again label it as ‘Volume One’ that make it quite clear that they were also fully prepared to move forward with another season had NBC not decided to cancel it.
Fans of both the original series as well as this reboot/continuation will likely want to make certain to pick up a copy of the ‘Heroes Reborn: Event Series’ on Blu-ray to add to their collections, especially for those fans who already have all four seasons of the original ‘Heroes’ series on Blu-ray. The Blu-ray release of ‘Heroes Reborn’ provides outstanding high definition video and audio presentations on each of the 13 episodes, along with a few notable extras including ‘Deleted Scene(s) on 9 episodes and more (more detailed information regarding the bonus content can be found in the special features section of the technical specification coverage below), sure to make this one a definite must own, at least for a number of the fellow fans.
Overall, fans of this solid reboot will likely want to grab a copy of the ‘Heroes Reborn: Event Series’ on Blu-ray to add to their collections, as will many who missed it while airing but have little (or no) doubt they will enjoy it. Those fans of the original series who may not have yet had the opportunity to check out ‘Heroes Reborn’ yet are understandably hesitant to cough up the cash for a blind purchase of the Blu-ray will definitely want to consider at least checking the show out when you have the chance, it’s a well done return to the series that keeps true to its roots in nearly every way and is certainly well worth a watch for anyone who enjoyed ‘Heroes’.
The Blu-ray release of ‘Heroes Reborn’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the episodes in the series. The video presentations look outstanding, providing a sharp and detailed presentation on every episode that perfectly represents the always colorful series and holds up spectacularly, even during the many fast moving and/or darkly lit sequences and never resulting in anything occurring on screen to become negatively affected or rendered indiscernible; without a single notable fault to be found within. Overall, these are fantastic high definition video presentations that should easily thrill the fellow fans.
The Blu-ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 13 episodes in the series. These lossless multichannel soundtracks are spectacular and deliver consistently crisp, clean and wildly aggressive audio presentation on each episode, constantly utilizing all five available channels in order to surround the viewer with the music, along with no shortage of action-related auditory effects swirling about the various speakers including everything from gun shots and debris, among more, while never causing any dialogue which may be occurring simultaneously to become distorted, let alone rendered inaudible. Overall, these are quite the impressive 5.1 channel DTS-HD MA soundtracks and they should not disappoint in the slightest.
The Blu-ray release of ‘Heroes Reborn’ includes a few solid extras. Included on the release are ‘Deleted Scene(s)’ from 9 of the 13 episodes (running approximately 18 minutes altogether), as well as all six parts of the web series which preceded the actual series ‘Heroes Reborn: Dark Matters’ (approximately 43 minutes in total), and a Behind the Scenes Featurette ‘Heroes Reborn: Reliving The Legacy’ (approximately 11 minutes) which includes behind the scenes footage and interviews/comments with the cast and crew.
