Synopsis:
Oliver Queen’s Arrow has become a hero to the citizens of Starling City – but he will quickly discover that doesn’t mean he can lead a normal life in the spectacular third season of the hit series based on the DC Comics character. A new wave of diabolical masterminds – including the insidious and pervasive havoc wrought by the lethal and secretive League of Assassins – threatens all he holds dear. Team Arrow has grown into a powerful force, but the dangers and secrets that bind them together often put them at odds with each other, as the shadows cast by Malcolm Merlyn and the omnipotent Ra’s al Ghul trigger shifts in loyalties and alliances that test them to their core.
The third season of ‘Arrow’ picks up shortly after Oliver and his team were finally able to subdue Slade Wilson, putting a stop to his sadistic attacks and his newly created super army intent on destroying the city; the team now enjoying as peaceful of a time as ever in the increasingly dangerous Starling City which they have sworn to protect. When a tragedy occurs and they lose someone incredibly close, Oliver and the rest must deal with their pent up emotions and conflicts within house, while being forced to simultaneously deal with the deadly League of Assassins whose immortal leader Ra’s al Ghul has set his sights on Oliver and Starling City for a murder he wasn’t responsible for. Before long things become more dangerous than ever, although there is hope, including the brilliant Ray Palmer, the new owner of Queen Consolidated who may have a few tricks up his sleeve. As events become drastically worse one thing becomes painfully clear, even if they do manage to make it out of this fight alive, things will be forever changed.
Season three of the increasingly pleasurable DC Comics series ‘Arrow’ only continues to up the ante and the action-packed insanity as our heroes are forced to confront their most dangerous challenge yet. Delivering all of the intensity, gorgeous action and heart that ‘Arrow’ continues to display in full, the third season is right up there with the previous seasons, and if anything a slight improvement courtesy of some new storylines and occurrences that are not only jaw-dropping but also incredibly emotional in a few instances. The cast is once again at the top of their game and some new guest stars in the third season including Peter Stormare, Dog Jones, Brandon Routh (who is magnificent in his portrayal of Ray Palmer) and a number more contribute some added enjoyment to this already incredibly entertaining series.
Fellow fans of both ‘Arrow’ and the DC Comics Universe in general will undoubtedly want to make certain to pick up a copy of ‘Arrow: The Complete Third Season’ on Blu-ray to add to their collections. The release follows the trend of the previous Blu-ray season releases, delivering impressive high definition video and audio presentations, in addition to a number of great bonus goodies including Deleted Scene(s) on multiple episodes, Audio Commentary tracks on 2 key episodes and more (more detailed information regarding the bonus content can be found in the special features section of the technical specification coverage below) easily making this a definite must own.
VIDEO:
The Blu-ray release of ‘Arrow: The Complete Third Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the third seasons episodes. The video presentations look fantastic as a whole, delivering sharp, detailed presentations on every episode, holding up admirably even during the darkly lit and fast moving sequences that are so prominent in the series, never resulting in anything occurring on screen to become negatively affected or rendered indiscernible. Overall, these are top notch high definition video presentations that should easily please fellow fans of this fantastic series.
AUDIO:
The Blu-ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 23 Season Three episodes. These lossless multichannel soundtracks sound fantastic, once again providing a clean, discrete and often highly aggressive audio presentation on each episode, frequently utilizing all five available channels in order to surround the viewer with the shows great score in addition to a plethora of action oriented auditory effects constantly whizzing past, while never causing any dialogue which may be occurring simultaneously to become distorted or rendered inaudible. Overall, these are impressive 5.1 channel DTS-HD MA soundtracks that contribute a great deal of fun to the overall experience of the series and should not disappoint.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The Blu-ray release of ‘Arrow: The Complete Third Season’ includes a number of great extras. Included on the release are ‘Deleted Scene(s) from multiple episodes, along with Audio Commentary tracks on 2 key episodes; ‘The Calm’ and ‘The Climb’. We are also treated to a few Behind the Scenes Featurettes exploring different elements of the season and including comments and interviews with members of the cast and crew, the included Featurettes are: ‘The Man Behind the Suit: The Atom’s First Flight’ (running approximately 7 minutes in length), ‘Nanda Parbat: Constructing the Villain’s Lair’ (approximately 23 minutes) and ‘Second Skins: Creating the Uniforms of Arrow’ (17 minutes). Lastly, we are treated to ‘Arrow at Comic-Con 2014’ (29 minutes) and a ‘Gag Reel’ (4 minutes).
