‘Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem’ is a perfect follow-up to ‘Animal Instincts’ and another incredibly enjoyable and action packed (while also remaining bloodless and generally kid friendly) adventure with no shortage of humor and a gorgeous futuristic setting. It also includes returning voice talent from the first movie, including Roger Craig Smith, Chris Diamantopoulos, Will Friedle and others reprising their roles as some of our heroes, along with newcomers such Troy Baker doing an impressive job as the voice of The Joker, Kari Wuhrer as Silver Banshee and more.
Batman, general DC fans and parents alike will quite likely want to make certain to pick up a copy of ‘Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem’ on Blu-Ray to add to their collections. For those who enjoyed the first original movie in the series ‘Animal Instincts’, ‘Monster Mayhem’ should certainly be a safe blind buy as it’s as thoroughly enjoyable as its predecessor, even a slight improvement in many ways as they seem to have really done a great job utilizing these characters to their fullest, not to mention the inclusion of Joker who is perfectly represented, especially for a kid friendly animated original movie such as this. I also urge the casual fans and those uncertain of a blind buy to at least check ‘Monster Mayhem’ out, it’s well worth the price of a rental at the very least and you will almost surely be quite pleased that you decided to do so.
VIDEO:
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Batman Unlimited: Monster Mayhem’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks great for the most part. It does suffer from the expected occasional banding issues, yet nothing we haven’t come to expect or take for granted on these releases at this point. It nonetheless provides a rich, sharp and detailed presentation that looks fantastic and spot-on in most every other regard down to each and every animated line, holding up admirably during the constant fast paced and/or darkly lit sequences occurring and never resulting in anything occurring on screen becoming indiscernible at any point. Overall, this is a gorgeous high definition video presentation in most every respect that should easily please the fellow DC fans out there.
AUDIO:
The Blu-Ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. This lossless multichannel soundtrack is sharp, discrete and highly aggressive, utilizing all five available channels with consistency to surround the viewer with a plethora of action-oriented auditory effects, including maniacal laughing, cars, bullets, flying heroes and a great deal more whizzing by with regularity, yet never causing any dialogue which may be occurring simultaneously to become negatively affected or rendered inaudible. Overall, this is an impressive and hard hitting 5.1 channel DTS-HD MA soundtrack that contributes a great deal of fun to this original animated movie.
