‘My Girl’ is one film any of us who grew up in the early 90’s are quite likely very familiar with, and one that also left a lasting impression on many of us (or at least for me) all these years later with its funny, emotional and even painful representation of one young girl’s (Chlumsky) life growing up as a child living with her father (Akroyd) in a funeral parlor in the 1970’s and a summer full of life lessons that she experiences. Directed by the late Howard Zieff (The Dream Team) and filled with wonderful performances by a number of talented actors including Dan Akroyd, Jamie Lee Curtis, Macaulay Culkin and an impressive debut performance by the young Anna Chlumsky, this is an emotional and exceptionally well done gem that still holds up today.

Fellow fans of ‘My Girl’ will almost surely want to pick up a copy of this phenomenal film, finally available to own on Blu-Ray for the first time ever. The Blu-Ray includes fantastic high definition video and audio presentations, along with some extra bonus goodies including an Audio Commentary track with writer Laurice Elehwany and more (more detailed information regarding the bonus content can be found in the special features section of the technical specification coverage below) making this a must own for everyone out there who has been awaiting the opportunity to own this film on Blu-Ray, finally available here with the best possible video and audio quality you will find for it.

VIDEO:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘My Girl’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks great, especially for a film shot more than a couple decades ago. The colors are sharp, the backgrounds and movements smooth and detailed. The film really looks pretty fantastic here on Blu-Ray for the first time, with no notable faults to be found within, and still retaining some grain and other elements of its original source material which should certainly please the fans.

AUDIO:

The Blu-Ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. While it should come as no surprise that it’s not the most active of multichannel soundtracks, it delivers in every way required of it. Taking advantage of the surrounding channels for the score and some nature elements in outdoor sequences, and never causing any dialogue occurring simultaneously to become distorted or inaudible in any way. This is a more than competent 5.1 channel DTS-HD MA soundtrack that should not disappoint.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The Blu-Ray release of ‘My Girl’ includes a few nice bonus goodies. Included on the release is an Audio Commentary with Writer Laurice Elehwany, along with ‘A Day on Set’ which takes a look at the on-set experiences of filming two crucial scenes ‘First Kiss’ & ‘Bingo’ (running a bit under 5 minutes in total). Also included are an ‘Original Behind the Scenes Featurette’ (running approximately 6 minutes in length) and the Theatrical Trailer.

Plot Summary:

Get ready for the ultimate in goofy girl scout movies; meet ‘Troop Beverly Hills’ the misfit group of spoiled rich kids who still haven’t earned even a single badge. When new troop leader Phyllis Nefler (Long) comes on board, she handles things in the most ‘beverly hills’-ish’ manner possible and while taking things to a new level of silly and fabulous, she ends up making it longer than any previous leader of the troop yet, and as strange as it may be, she just might be the one to turn these girls around. Directed by Jeff Kanew (Revenge of the Nerds) and starring Shelley Long, Craig T. Nelson and more; this late 80’s classic is one that will surely stay long remembered by many folks in the years to follow.
