Plot Summary:
As a series of strange and violent events start happening, an alcoholic policeman realizes that he has been turned into a werewolf as part of a larger plan, so he investigates with the help of his partner and his friend.
Meet Lou, a lazy, alcoholic cop who isn’t great at his job and usually seems to spend more time in the bar putting back drinks than actually doing any real police work, a fact that also frequently results in him never making it to work even relatively close to on time. But after Lou is randomly abducted by some strange cult members one night and forced into some sort of ritual, all of that will begin to change. After awaking back at home the next day, Lou goes back to his daily life, at least until an average late night visit to the bar ends with him painfully transforming into a werewolf and murdering a group of thugs. Before long, with the help of a friend Lou decides to stop trying to hide and after changing to wolf mode he goes out upon the town and starts putting some serious hurt on the crime of the city, taking full advantage of his new wolf-like abilities to do good, unbeknownst to him that the cult responsible for his change is still hunting him and appears to have plans of their own for him.
Lowell Dean wrote and directed ‘Wolfcop’ and he does a truly impressive job at the helm, delivering a real throwback to so many films of the 80’s that many of us love and he couldn’t have possible done a better job of matching that tone. The cast is composed mostly of individuals I’m not personally familiar with, including the likes of Leo Fafard, Amy Matysio, Sarah Lind, Aidan Devine, Jonathan Cherry and a number more, all of whom deliver surprisingly solid and more than capable performances in each of their respective roles.
‘Wolfcop’ is incredibly fun, it’s a goofy and gory great time straight out of the 80’s and fans of genre films of that time should thoroughly enjoy this fantastically done film that is sure to become a heavily discussed and respected cult classic in the years to come. For those hesitant to give the movie a shot, I would highly encourage you to reconsider as while it may look incredibly stupid and worthless at first glance, in reality it is anything but. ‘Wolfcop’ is easily one of the enjoyable experiences I’ve had watching a movie in recent memory and I can’t possibly recommend it highly enough. You’ll definitely want to make sure and check this one out (plus probably pick up a copy of the Blu-Ray as well) before the sequel (which I believe is already filming) arrives. This is not one you’re going to want to miss out on.
VIDEO:
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Wolfcop’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio. The video presentation looks great as a whole, the colors, detail and backgrounds are all sharp, clean and look fantastic down to each edge of the picture. Even the dark and fast moving sequences look fantastic and never cause anything occurring on screen to become distorted or negatively affected; in fact no notable faults of any sort could be found within on my end throughout. Overall, this is a very solid high definition video presentation that definitely gets top marks and should more than please fans of this great time of a film.
AUDIO:
The Blu-Ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack that sounds pretty fantastic itself. All five of the available channels are regularly utilized, surrounding the viewer with everything from music, typical background noise to some more noticeable audio effects whizzing about during the action sequences, yet also never causing any dialogue that might be occurring simultaneously to become distorted or inaudible in any way. As with the video presentation, this 5.1 channel DTS-HD MA soundtrack sounds wonderful and should not disappoint in any way.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Wolfcop’ includes a number of fun and informative extras that should please the fans. Included on the release is an Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Lowell Dean and Special Effects Artist Emersen Ziffle. Also included is ‘Wolfcop Unleashed – Behind the Scenes Featurette’ which runs over 45 minutes in length and takes a detailed look at nearly every aspect required in bringing this film alive from the concept process onward. We are also treated to ‘The Birth of Wolfcop’ which consists of numerous short Behind the Scenes Featurettes, in addition to ‘Film Outtakes’ (running just over 3 minutes), A ‘Wolfcop Music Video’, a short ‘Special Thanks’ video and a number of Trailers and Promos including the Theatrical Trailer, Original Concept Trailer and more.
