A billionaire software-genius named Harold Finch creates a Machine for the government that is designed to detect acts of terror before they can happen, by monitoring the entire world through every cell-phone, email and surveillance camera. Finch discovered that the machine sees everything, potential terrorist acts and violent crimes that involve ordinary people. When the government considered violent crimes between normal people “irrelevant”, Finch built a back door into the system that gives him the social security number of a person involved in a future violent crime so he could act. Partnered with John Reese, an ex-CIA agent, the two work in secret to prevent violent crimes before they can happen. Eventually their activities lead to being hunted by the New York Police Department, CIA Agents in pursuit of Reese who was listed as dead, a computer hacker named Root who wants access to the Machine, and government officials who want to keep all knowledge of the Machine a complete secret.
Warning: This review contains heavy spoilers from Season Two and some potential spoilers from Season Three!!
The third season of the Jonathan Nolan created series ‘Person of Interest’ resumes shortly after the events that occurred at the end of season two. Finch, Reese and their group (now also joined by the wild cannon Shaw) continue to follow up on the numbers they are provided, trying to continue with their work of helping those in need. Root, who is still institutionalized is now supposedly in contact with the machine herself, claiming to be communicating with it and likely planning something much bigger. Yet, that is only where the season begins and things certainly go into some far darker and more threatening territory this season. There are threats everywhere; while some evils may finally be confronted and dealt with for good, far worse forces will additionally arise and not all of our heroes will survive.
As many readers may already be aware, ‘Person of Interest’ is one of my favorite shows currently airing on TV and this ‘Complete Third Season’ Blu-Ray set will definitely be a must own for fellow fans of the series. The Blu-Ray release delivers absolutely phenomenal video and audio quality, not to mention it’s also loaded with an impressive quantity of bonus features (more detailed information regarding the bonus content can be found in the special features section of the technical specification coverage below) that you won’t want to miss out on. I would definitely recommend the fans of the series who want to relive every moment in the highest possible quality available pick up a copy of the Blu-Ray release to add to your collection.
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Person of Interest: The Complete Third Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio on all of the third seasons episodes. As we’ve come to expect from Warner’s TV Blu-Ray releases, the video presentation on the episodes look fantastic, far superior even to the HD broadcast in which they were originally aired. Everything is sharp and detailed with no noticeable faults to be found within on my end. Fans of the series should be more than pleased with these high definition video presentations.
The Blu-Ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on all 23 Season Three episodes. These lossless soundtracks are surprisingly active, frequently taking advantage of all five channels to really deliver some hard hitting and immersing effects, while never detracting from audibility of the dialogue, usually focused to the center channel. These are definitely some overall solid DTS-HD MA soundtracks on the episodes that really help bring an additional level of enjoyment to the overall experience of the series.
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Person of Interest: The Complete Third Season’ includes a pretty nice collection of bonus content for the fellow fans like me to delve even deeper into the show. Included on the release are a number of new featurettes such as ‘Person of Interest: The Future of A.I.’ which takes a look at how many of the show’s ideas are actually based in reality; ‘2013 Comic-Con Panel; ‘Saying Goodbye To A Friend’ which takes a look behind the scenes at the loss of one of the characters which occurred this season and ‘Bear On Set’ which takes a look at a day in the life of Boker the dog who plays Bear on the series. Also included on the release are Digital Comic One-Shots for every single episode of the season, Audio Commentary by Michael Emerson on the Season Finale and a fun gag reel. As you can clearly see there is a pretty nice collection of bonus content included on this one that fans of the series definitely won’t want to miss out on.
