Survivors of an alien attack on earth gather together to fight for their lives and fight back.
The third season of ‘Falling Skies’ begins seven months after the 2nd Mass’ arrival at Charleston. A lot has changed in these seven months, with Tom (now President of the ‘New United States’) reluctantly playing the role of leader and also finding some happiness in love as well as with a new child on the way now any day. A new alien species has also been revealed, and while many remain skeptical of their true intentions, this new species seems intent on helping the humans win this war and at this point, unfortunately they need all of the help that they can get. With constant complications and new unknown threats looming at every turn, the 2nd Mass will have to put their opinions and differences aside in order to stay alive, one step ahead of their enemy, as well as get to the bottom of the multiple mysteries surrounding them.
‘Falling Skies’ is a truly impressive television series that only continues to improve in each subsequent season. This season brings a number of intense and emotional situations, arguably some of the most painful, emotional and action packed insanity that we have seen from ‘Falling Skies’ so far and revisiting season three on Blu-Ray has really started getting me incredibly excited for the fourth season which premieres later this month on TNT and with an extended twelve episode season to boot. This show continues to impress and if you haven’t had the chance to check out the third season yet, this would be the perfect time to do so.
Fans of ‘Falling Skies’ will definitely want to pick up a copy of the Complete Third Season Blu-Ray to add to their collection. The 2-disc Blu-Ray set includes all ten episodes in stunning video and audio quality, in addition to an impressive collection of bonus content (see more detailed information in the special features section of the technical coverage below) that is sure to leave everyone thoroughly entertained long after they finish watching (and re-watching) the seasons ten episodes.
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Falling Skies: The Complete Third Season’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the show’s original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio (though the rear of the box once again incorrectly states a 2.4:1 presentation for some reason, I can yet again confirm that it is actually presented in the series’ original 1.78:1 Aspect Ratio) on all of the third seasons episodes. The video quality is pretty outstanding and looks eons better than the episodes did when initially broadcast in HD. Everything looks sharp and clear with no notable flaws to be found within on my end. Fans should be pretty thrilled with the high definition video presentation on this one.
The Blu-Ray release features an uncompressed English 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD soundtrack on all ten season three episodes and as with previous seasons, it sounds pretty fantastic. The tame moments perfect adapt to the emotion while adequately inserting the score to perfect the mood and the action oriented sequences (which there are certainly plenty of in ‘Falling Skies’) take full advantage of the surround channels and the constant activity flooding around the viewer definitely just makes the overall experience that much more enjoyable. Fellow audiophiles and fans of the show alike should be very pleased with this lossless multichannel soundtrack.
The Blu-Ray release of Falling Skies: The Complete Third Season’ features a pretty impressive collection of bonus content spread out upon both discs. Included on the release is 9 episodes of ‘2nd Watch with Will Wheaton’ which I was thrilled to see as the previous season I believe only included an episode or two and as far as post shows go this one is really a lot of fun. Also included are a number of short behind the scenes featurette’s, as well as two lengthier featurette’s (each approximately 20 minutes in length) titled ‘Warrior Poet: Creating the Character & Emotion of Cochise’ and ‘Karen: The Overlord Next Door.’ Certainly more than enough extra goodies to keep fans of the series busy for awhile.
