This remastered Blu-Ray release of ‘Fargo’ was (believe it or not) my first time ever having the pleasure of seeing this film. It’s not that I’ve never had any interest in doing so, in fact I’ve been intending to see it for some time, but one thing led to another and as it ends up, this gorgeous looking Remastered Edition ended up being my first viewing and I must say that this film definitely lives up to the hype that surrounds it and was a truly phenomenal film in almost every single way. Fans will definitely want to pick up a copy of this impressive looking Remastered Blu-Ray edition to add to their collections.
Everything about ‘Fargo’ from the dialogue and the unique characters down to the camera shots utilizing the beautiful snowy landscape is all fantastic. For those of you who like me might not have ever found the chance to check this one out, I would highly urge you to do so because I’m fairly certain you won’t be disappointed in the least. As one can imagine it certainly adds even more to the enjoyment of the experience being from Minnesota as I myself am. The Coen’s do a tremendous job in their respective roles writing and directing and the cast here could not be more stellar. Frances McDormand, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, Peter Stormare and pretty much every other member of the cast gives powerful and noteworthy performances here that will certainly not be forgotten over the years.
VIDEO:
The remastered Blu-Ray release of ‘Fargo’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio. While (as I mentioned earlier) this was my first viewing of the film, I’m not able to compare the video presentation with the previous release, although I can at least say that it certainly looks pretty fantastic. All of the colors, people and surroundings are detailed and look fantastic down to the edges of the picture and I personally could not find any notable faults throughout.
AUDIO:
The Blu-Ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. This is a very capable lossless multichannel soundtrack and the random noises in the surrounding areas as well the wonderful score all sound discrete and fantastic, while all of the dialogue (which is definitely a very signficant part of what made this such a phenomenal film) is always audible and never affected by what may be occurring in the surrounding channels.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The remastered Blu-Ray release of ‘Fargo’ may not be absolutely loaded with bonus content, but it does include a number of nice extras, though from what I can tell, mostly all extras also included on the previous release. It also should be noted that apparently the Coen’s have little to no interest in supplemental material and I’m sure most will be picking up this release for the remastered feature. Included here are an Audio Commentary with the Director of Photography Roger A Deakins, a fun Trivia Track that fans of the film will likely have a lot of fun with, ‘Minnesota Nice Featurette’, ‘American Cinematographer Article’ and a Still Photo Gallery.
