Plot Summary:
Three sixty-something friends take a break from their day-to-day lives to throw a bachelor party in Las Vegas for their last remaining single pal.
‘Last Vegas’ tells the story of four close friends who as children dubbed themselves ‘The Flatbush Four’ who decide to reunite 58 years later in order to throw a wild bachelor party in Vegas for their one friend (Douglas) who has never been married and has just proposed to his 31 year old girlfriend, and at his friends funeral no less. The film provides a lot of heart, and also a very healthy helping of hilarity and the laughs consistently flow throughout the film’s entirety, while never sacrificing any of the emotion or heart that helps to make this such a wonderful film.
While it is certainly a great movie as a whole, the most notable factor of ‘Last Vegas’ has to be the absolutely stellar cast, most specifically the four greats that are front and center: Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline, who all do a fantastic job in their roles and who all shockingly had never worked with each other prior to ‘Last Vegas’. The writing and directing is more than capably handled and the supporting cast members all shine as well. You really can’t do much better than this when it comes to acquiring the best talent possible for a film and it is without question the shining point of this great film.
OVERALL: ‘Last Vegas’ is a real treat for filmgoers whom over the years have enjoyed these four great actors’ work, yet never had the pleasure of seeing them together. In addition to the cast (which is certainly the most attracting and notable factor of ‘Last Vegas’) we are actually treated with a well written and executed film that provides as much heart as it does laughs and talent. It is a heartwarming, fun and hilarious movie with a stellar cast that when all added up makes this a film that most will definitely not want to miss out on.
VIDEO:
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Last Vegas’ features a full 1080p High Definition presentation utilizing the film’s original 2.40:1 Cinemascope Aspect Ratio. Once again Sony continues to prove they are one of the best as far as bringing a phenomenal high definition transfer to the table as ‘Last Vegas’ is certainly no exception to the norm and looks absolutely wonderful on Blu-Ray. The colors, tones, fast moving moments, all the way down to the edges of the picture is all spot on and no imperfections could be found to any degree on my end. Everyone should be more than pleased with this gorgeous high definition video presentation.
AUDIO:
The Blu-Ray release features a lossless 5.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack. While this certainly isn’t the type of film to fully utilize a lossless multichannel soundtrack, it certainly does an adequate job of amplifying some aspects such as the music and party sequences in addition to of course providing that sharp clarity that only a lossless soundtrack can supply. The fellow audiophiles out there should be quite content with this one and if anything it goes above and beyond the type of multichannel soundtrack you would expect from a movie such as ‘Last Vegas.’
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The Blu-Ray release of ‘Last Vegas’ includes a hefty supply of extras for the viewer to delve further into the making of this great film. Included are Filmmaker Commentary, as well as a number of short featurettes including: ‘It’s going to be legendary’ ‘Four Legends’ ‘The Flatbush Four’ in addition to three more exclusive to the Blu-Ray release: ‘Shooting in Sin City’ ‘The Redfoo Party’ and ‘Supporting Ensemble’. The featurettes include interviews and comments with a number of the cast and crew members and help give some additional insight into the making of the film, and also some interesting facts many may not be aware of, such as the fact that none of the four lead stars have ever worked with each other prior to ‘Last Vegas’.

Good review Kevin. Without these all-stars involved with this flick, who knows what would have happened to it. However, with them in it and pulling in some wonderful work, the movie is a bit better than it ever could have been.
